Bret got us setup with this one.

    2001 2001 Black Expedition w/ 143k+ miles.

I wish we would of got more process pics. The hood was a mess and Bret wetsanded it with various grades of paper and did a 3 step polish to get it back.

I polished the rest of this beast.

    PRODUCTS AND PROCESS:

    WASH

Duragloss 901, cotton chenille mitts, EFHI full strength on the tires to remove nasty silicone tire shine, WW towels to dry.

    HOOD POLISHING

Wetsand with combo of 1500, 2000, and 2500 grit

Step 1 compound with Edge black wool, Presta Strata 1000, Metabo at ~1800rpm

Step 2 polish with Edge foam green pad, Zaino ZPC, Metabo at ~1500rpm

Step 3 final finish with orange foam cutting pad, Zaino ZPC, PC at speed 6

    VEHICLE POLISHING

Step 1 polish with Edge green wool pad, Presta 1500, Metabo at ~1500rpm

Step 2 final finish with LC CCS white pad, Zaino ZPC, Metabo at ~1500rpm

    SEALANT

    Zaino Z5Pro x 3, Zaino Z8 wipedown

    WHEELS AND TIRES

Zaino AIO on chrome wheels, Zaino Z16 on tires

Got her all taped up. This thing has a ton of trim and ya gotta protect it when runnin` a wheel

    Before shot of hood

1500 grit sanding, the beginning of my difficulties

    Side panel before shot

Even I look cool when running some wool. :buffing:

    Side panel after shot

After the polishing, Bret started applying the Z5pro and I had to get home. He applied all the zaino, did the wheels and tires. I think he is going to do a quick interior cleanup today.

    After 1

    After 2

    After 3

    After 4

    After 5

    After 6

    Excellent work as always, Bryan.

Not surpising you had to go to such extremes like wetsanding to bring the finish back. Seems like every 1st generation Expidition I have done is completely trashed inside and out.

Thanks Scott! From the limited look I had in the interior, it was not that bad.

Can you explain how you used Z-PC via rotary to finish?

    Nice flip!

I have the same truck, same color, same miles but it`s a 97. What did you use on teh hard plastic upright trim (Between driver and passenger doors) and the rear hatch? Look great! Mine is trashed. I figured I would polish it like the rest of the truck, but if you have a faster or easier method, lemm know!

Thanks Sean! Z-PC I find easy to finish with a rotary. 3-4 drops of ZPC on your pad to start when using a 6" white CCS. Spread it around, then turn on the rotary to the low speed to spread. Then turn up the speed to 1500. I make slow straight passes at first, then I increase the movement speed of the machine to finish it out.

    Thanks D1!

I polished those areas at about 1100-1200 and used light pressure. I used ZPC and the same white CCS pad.

Thanks Pepe! I think there still may be a few of those who swirl up cars in the area. Its what got me to learn how to do it myself.

WOW! Super work guys! That is glowing solid black now! I have done alot of Expeditions and usually they have crackled paint on the hood which stinks.

I used my Metabo today on a beat up Jag ( I wish I had pics) and it worked nice, but I have to get use to the way it feels verses a regular rotary with the feather trigger and the speed dial at thumbs length.

Thanks Ryan! I have seen the hood cracking in the clear on a few F-150s. This one did not have that "feature" but the hood was in very rough shape. Bret worked really hard to get this one right.

So how do you find the weight of the metabo?

    Thanks Bryan,

Now that I know what I`m looking for, I have to find a place locally (in Hawaii) that sells it. No Tuesday Morning stores here, so I`ll have to wait til Wednesday (ok, stale joke  ). Anyway, thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!
