Hey everyone. I wanna start off with saying this is a great site i have learned a ton here. Here are some pics of me putting the knowledge to use.

So heres a little background. I manage the detail shop at a local dealership and this turd was a trade in. Its a 99 Chevy silverado stepside that someone did a god awful repaint on and then washed it with pure gravel to hide the quality of the paint job.

Several spots had to be sanded. Started with 1500 then 2000 then 3000 to finish it off. Buffed with a dewalt rotary with 3m wool pad and 3m rubbing compound. Then it was 3m smr with an edge blue pad. Topped it with two coats of collinite`s 845 via pc and there you have it. please give me some feedback as i am always looking to improve my work and not be just another dealership hack as some like to say.

Looks good but watch out for the 3M SMR. I have found that it has a ton of fillers in it. A while ago I detailed my sisters car and a few weeks later it was all swirled up again and it wasn`t because of washing or drying- the 3M SMR filled the swirls in...

    Oustanding work!

Wetsand, rotary and swirl free...you may be new to Autopia but you definitely aren`t new to detailing.

thanks for the comments guys. im 24 and have been detailing since i was 18, but never really used the rotary till i was 21 or so and am just now starting to get pretty comfortable with it. the people who ran the shop before me would only get cheap no name brand supplies that were near impossible to get any good results with. things have changed now that im in charge.

Im getting away from the 3m smr for that very reason. looks nice but doesnt seem to last. i just got megs dacp and really like what i have been able to do with that so far.

One question, am i crazy to continue doing this kind of work for 8 bucks an hour?

$8 an hour? Yeah, that is really low. To make more, you`d have to go out on your own and I don`t know how feasible that is for you.

yeah im hating this snow and the cold. windchills here are like 20 below today with the snow blowing like crazy. yesterday was a white out all afternoon and now i have abour 6 inches of hard as a rock snow in my driveway. that is its hard till you drive on it as my girlfriend found out, just got in from a 6 hour digging session to get her car to go about 4 feet. but thanks for the comments. im gonna try and get some pics of some other stuff next week. ive got a big green suburban waiting in the wings.
