I based the cleaning ability on the dwelling time, the car was pretty clean and the maximum dwell time was 5 minutes so as you can probably see by the pictures some foam was still visible whereas on other shampoo`s the foam was gone.

I figured the longer the product stayed on the surface the better it cleaned? This may be innacurate but I will be using the various shampoos over the next few weeks and will update when using a very dirty car?

:thx for the good & thorough review, as it convinced me to buy the butchers foam gun, which is anxiously awaiting to be used! :p

I have come to enjoy foam gun washing of cars.

If only the neighbors would stop interrupting me and asking all kinds of questions.

The three best OTC soaps I`ve tried via foam gun that produced nice, rich mixes include : NXT Wash, Gold Class, and Duragloss. Be sure to dilute that Duragloss thoroughly. Once it actually produced just too much foamy mix to the point of hindering the rinsing process. Other than that, these were really nice.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.

I was sort of thinking the same thing. The test seems great to show who foams the longest but that is not really a true test of cleaning ability.

    what is dwell time?

do you not rinse this stuff off? (or, why do you let it set 5 minutes)

I dont have a foam gun yet but I`ll assume the reason they measure dwell time is they are using it like a pre-wash. This would help to loosen and remove dirt before washing to decrease the risk of inducing marring.

    Yeah, that`s the right idea.

Dwell time is the period that the product sits on the surface- letting it soak for a while gives it time to do its thing. Like spraying a stain remover on laundry and letting it sit for a while before putting it in the washing machine.

I don`t let it dwell that long though, don`t want to risk it compromising my LSP let alone drying on the finish. Spray it on, let it dwell, then proceed per usual. It just gives the shampoo a little time to start dissolving any built-up dirt.

Great write up and pictorial :thx !!!!!!!!

the funniest reply had to be comparing a foam gun with simple green foaming spray bottle. Some people just spend too much time behind the tailpipes if you know what i mean

Simple Green has a foam gun Identical to the Gilmour..I believe it is made by Gilmour also...When the foam gun craze started it was either a gilmour or a simple green...both were found at janitorial supply houses...
