A friend of mine who is notorioulsy bad at cleaning his car offered to pay me to go and do it instead. He just wanted it washed but that`s not particularly Autopian so I said I`d do him "mates rates" on a full detail (exterior only). As a few of my products hadn`t arrived by the time I did it, I had a choice of AG SRP/EGP or Megs #9/#7/#26. I decided to go for durability so went with the AG. I also thought that the EGP would make the metallic "pop" a bit more.

    Process was:

    Wash with Sonax Gloss Shampoo

Clay with Megs Quick Clay (Sonax Gloss Shampoo as lube)

SRP via PC with Sonus DAS green, speed 4

    EGP by hand

Wheels - AG Clean Wheels (I wouldn`t normally use acid but they were disgusting!) and Hyperturismo`s Wheel Wax

Tyres - Megs Endurance High Gloss

Megs All Metal Polysh on the exhaust tips

Firstly this was the delightful sight that greeted me when I pulled into his road!

After about six hours of washing, claying, polishing and sealing this was the end result:

I also managed to get a couple of night time shots:

Overall I`m really pleased with the result. I still need some more practice with the PC and next time I do a car (which will hopefully be mine!) I`ll have some more products to play with. The only downside to the day was not being able to feel my hand whilst claying - it was so cold!

pardon my n00bness, but what`s the CSL mean?

My neighbor has a 01 M3 in that same color, and he always runs it thru a quick wash, as it NEVER looks dirty, at least from 5-10 feet away.

    Beautiful detail!

    Blue-sun,

CSL stands for "Coupe Sport Light"

It is a lighter weight version of the M3 - I think it has a lot of Carbon Fibre body parts. It also has a bit of a power boost over the standard M3`s - I think it has 360bhp over the std 332.

It has a slightly different interior - with the focus being even more "race look" - less concecions to comfort. It was VERY limited numbers and isn`t made any more. Here in the UK where a standard M3 is about ÂÂ40,000 ($80,000usd) the CSL was just over ÂÂ53,000 ($106,000usd). BMW describe it as "the most aggressive performance car they have ever made"

Oh and Ben - thats an awesome detail.

You should be very proud of your results and your mate should be very ashamed of letting it get like that in the first place!

    Looks awesome under the lights!

CSL stands for Coupe Sport Lightweight. It`s 110kgs lighter than the regular coupe and has revised suspension geometry, revised intake manifold, lighter wheels, lighter exhaust, carbon roof and front (what I call a bumper but you guys probably call) fender, quicker steering, bucket seats and whole host of other things to make it more extreme. I was lucky enough to own one of these for a year and then sold it due to new business commitments. You guys didn`t get it in the US because the carbon fender didn`t pass your crash regulations or something.

Pic (OK so not a very good one!) of the carbon roof:
