Sanmer Detailing (and friends): Munted Commodore Miracle

This paint correction and interior detail gave me a lot of FML moments as I first inspected the car. It was in a really, really bad condition.

I knew that I would be able to make a difference to the appearance of the car but it wasn`t until choosing the photos for my Facebook page that I realised how much of a difference we made to the car.

This is one of those jobs that starts off with me thinking "Why me..." and finished up with my jaw hitting the desk once I saw the photos.`

Onto the car. The Commodore when it arrived at the workshop.

Normally I would foam the car with a strong car wash/APC combination, then give the car a 2 bucket wash. This old girl was beyond any normal wash so I started the process with an APC drenching.

This was then followed by a foam bath, then a second foam and wash and then a third foam and clay/prep toweling.

The reason why I went for the foaming to clay/prep towel the car was because the paint felt like sand paper and needed a lot of work to clean the surface. I wasn`t going to waste all of my clay lube on this car so the foaming was the cheaper/more time efficient/easier option.

The car was then dried, moved into the detailing area and the paint was assessed for correction. Basically it was shagged....

The boot in particular was in a terrible state and had me thinking of looking for petrol and matches instead of a Bigfoot and a cutting compound....

Considering the condition of the paint, I went a little silly with the test panel.

Well the Meg`s UC on a BnS polishing pad certainly didn`t work. Onto the next double step, some Rupes Zephir compound and a carpro wool ring cutting pad

Well at least time there was a difference and it gave me some confidence that I wouldn`t need to use my BP card.

The next day wasn`t as much fun, but I did feel a certain pressure to keep up the guys excellent work. After the guys using a multitude of different cutting compounds and both the Carpro wool and HD black wool pads, I went hardcore on the paint and hit with HD Cut with a mixture of the Carpro wool pads and the HD black wool pads.

Then came the bonnet. The horrible, terrible, God awful bonnet....

Then it was on to the rest of the car, again with the HD Cut.

After the car was hit really hard with the HD Cut it was washed, dried and then polished with some Meg`s UC on a finishing pad. The water beading in the next picture really confused the Commodore, it didn`t know that could happen with water on paint...

The next stage of the detail was to do the interior.

Then it was onto shampooing the seats and carpets.
