Why not contribute to the community in more ways than just posting your work? I almost find it contentious with how many click, post & run detailers that come here only to display their work. If you’re a true Pro that has passion for this trade/art why not show it by expanding everyone’s knowledge with more than what you can do with a camera? Is it that challenging to find a topic to engage in? If so, why not create one?

There should be a rule that you have to accumulate 500 posts before you’re allowed to show off your work.

Does anyone else feel the same way as I do?

DavidB could install some sort of system that hotlinks aren`t allowed until "X" posts have been reached. That may help mitigate the problem. vBulletin may just have this feature to begin with.

I agree, people should contribute beyond just posting their details. That`s how we all learn more and get better.

I am not a pro, but I have noticed this, too, and I agree with the sentiment above. To tell the truth, I have been limiting which pro detail posts I look at because of this. "Click and run" goes against the spirit of the forum.

The same could be said about the chat box.

Yeah, I`ve noticed some that post their work on every forum known to man and do the same thing one each one.....Nothing! Spam at it`s worst IMHO.

I am new to detailing and read a bunch of pro details. I don`t like when it`s just pics. I enjoy atleast seeing what products are used. Before I purchased products I seen what you guys were using then did research on those products to see which ones would be good for me.

I lurk on several forums , But truthfully this is my detailing home. With a lot of great guys here and a vast knowledge its a great place. I agree with this fully. SO many people come post and bounce. It does nothing for this forum what so ever. I enjoy looking at the work of others. I also enjoy reading, helping, and learning. Its a great thing. I think we should vote for an autopia president. We need someone to take charge of this crap. Any volunteers?

I agree in part. I even find it a problem when PROs just do a photo gallery and don`t explain what they did, or at best "i used 105 and some pads, hope you like". Its about the education of the reader as well as providing some eye candy.

500 posts is a lot. How did you come to this number?

    Cheers,

I can agree, to an extent.... the 500 post minimum is a bit excessive, IMHO, but that might just be me.

I try to contribute as much as I can. However, I`ll openly admit that I don`t have hardly any experience aside from the Meguiar`s line. I`m fairly proficient with them, and am able to manipulate/use them to get the desired effects. However, and I`m sure there ARE better products out there, but I`m happy, and more importantly, my clients are happy, with the results that the Meguiar`s products produce.

It took me a long time to pull the trigger and get ONR. But, thanks to the fellow members on Autopia, I decided to try the 8oz. sampler... now, I`m sitting on a case of 4-gals of it.

Just my $0.03. Hope it makes sense.

I`ll contribute - for me it would be difficult to accumulate 500 posts (maybe ever) with the vast amount of knowledge that`s been shared already. I`ve lurked here for a long time (wearing out the search button) and I have yet to come across a topic that A.) hasn`t been covered or B.) I know more about than someone else that has already posted a response. It seems to me that many new people (me included) either post before searching, or seem to agree with the resident experts (respect intended) and choose not to respond to keep the redundancy (actual word?) to a minimum.

But I`ll contribute what I can when I can! This is a great place to learn - period.

I talked with you about this before David, and I agree with the idea.

Hit & Runs are far too common. I don`t understand how someone can get popular because of the `net just to abandon the places they get their business. I refuse to post anywhere where I won`t try to be helpful in some way. Some sites I frequent more than others, but as a whole I do not believe in any form of spam.

Though 500 is a lot, I think 100 or 200 would make the same point. Or how about a word-count even?

There are some guys so bad with this that I won`t bother to open any thread they make as I don`t even want to give them one more "view". Other guys like Barry, Jesse, Bob, David, David, Todd, Todd, etc continuously put out great informative & entertaining write-ups that at times I won`t initially look at, but rather wait a week for the thread to die down so I can bump it back to the top.
