I had a long-winded reply to this, but I deleted it out of simplicity. I stopped reading the C&Bs years ago because of this and those that contain 50+ pictures.

A long comment about the forum:

I do not cross-post on as many car forums as some others... mostly just here and VWVortex. I will include myself in that list of people that talk but do not post C&Bs, and maybe I should more often. However, I do notice how there is a lot of traffic leaving from this forum and a lot of pros that have abandoned Autopia all together.

I stopped visiting the general forums in leu of only posting on the pro forums because the threads moved so fast. I wouldn`t bother with replying to simple newbie questions because I always figured "eh, some other veteran will help him out", though I`ve been seeing lately that this isn`t happening. I have also been noticing less moderator presence (is Tort still here?? how about Prince?).

With the literally thousands of web forums out there, I always considered Autopia to be my go-to forum for detailing geek-talk. I don`t have time to patronize 4 different detail forums. But it is seeming more and more like Autopia is no longer that go-to forum.

It is nice to see a lot of the respected members of the community are the ones bringing these issues up about the forum, so I know I`m not alone in the "get off my lawn, punk kids" attitude. I do truly miss a number of members that either no longer post regularly or have abandoned the forums all together.

    SO................

Is anything going to come of this discussion, I feel its winding down and in need of some closure or Admin discussion.

Please don`t turn this into another 3D Challenge thread of old.

    Cheers,

In contrast to the mud that was thrown at me by people on other forums about this thread, my intensions weren`t laid out to change anything on Autopia. I wanted to see if others felt the same as I did and from the unanimous positive acknowledgement by all who have replied here I`ve satisfied my quest. If the Admin/Mods of Autopia feel the need to change their policy so be it; I could really care less. I think this forum has a tendency of adapting to change in many instances regardless. I`d be more than happy to see this thread set as a "Sticky" if anyone else feels the need. If it stares a potential Shiller or Post & Runner in the face, they might think twice before wasting our valuable bandwidth. Most of the other sections here have had similar sorts of sticky threads; this may be no different if need be.

Just browsing a few car forums and it seems a lot of detailers here join other car forums and cut and paste their threads in those forums as well. The only other forum I post my details on is offtopic.com and I moderate the detailing forum there. Even though I am a member on maxima.org, pretty much the only details I post there are of my own car, or if someone is asking a specific question that I can address using a couple pictures of customer`s cars. I don`t have the time to post on several different automotive forums and since it seems everyone knows who I am anyway (google my username...) it doesn`t appear necessary anyway to get my name out.

Even worse, the post sun or halogen before shots and only shade or florescent after shots. The sun I can sort of understand because of that pesky earth rotation thing, but if you had halogens for the befores, you have them for the afters too.

I am not sure what other forums you are looking at, Autopia is still the site when it comes to detailing. But for detailing tools, DB is a better source - I aggree with that.

I can see everyone`s point. I don`t post alot, but offer some advice as well as posts (with pics) when I feel I have something to offer. I am by no means an expert or pro and learn alot from others on here. The only "off point" I would make to denying early posters from posting pics is if they have a certain problem...how many times do we hear or read "posting pics would help" to give advice on their problem. I think as earlier stated, perhaps some type of approval would be needed before reaching the "X" number of posts. Just a few random thoughts.

I do that, but I also work in front of a PC all day at my regular job. I have a few detailing threads much like the one you have on offtopic too on some other car forums.

I see Rasky on another forum were both on all the time I also "double dip" on postings, but I only do it on forums I am active on

I also made sure I made a bunch of post in C@B before making the move to the pro B@A area. I don`t have the most posts, but I try to be active and help if I can I also make sure I don`t friviously bump up my threads just to do it.... I think that may be more of the issue than anything. Seeing 5 of the top post all responded to by the detailer is usually just a way to bump them up IMO.

I think the main thing is to answer questions both in and out of your own C&B`s!!! there are a lot of here is my work threads on other forums by people who dont have a single post other than their work. I was getting called out for it on a BMW board and now I have to pay to post up work, heck even reply to a thread on a different forum, but if you look at my track record, I have about 20% C&B and 80% helpful comments/responses to members questions...and the guy who complained - only posts his work....but he is allowed to for some reason...go figure!

I don`t visit any other detailing forums other than Autopia so when I noticed the forum was slowing down (from where it was a couple years ago) I was afraid everyone was leaving me here for some secret detailing site I didn`t know about because I`m not in the Super Best Friends circle. :lol
