2005 Infiniti G35. Between the papers being signed and the car being picked up, the dealership hacks got their hands on this black G35.
This is after an ONR wash and Opti-Clay. The paint was not pretty...

I`ve found black Infinitis difficult to correct with a DA polisher despite was is usually somewhat soft paint-tend to end up with a lot of hazing on the tops of the fenders and A-pillars especially. This was going to be a rotary job. Started off with Meguiars #105 using a yellow Meguiars polishing pad. It was taking 3-4 polishing sessions per section to make any serious headway so I switched to an orange American Buffing waffle cutting pad @ 1200 rpms. Much better, one or two polishing sessions per section was getting pretty good results with minimal hologramming-certainly a lot less than the hack who buffed it before me...plus I was removing the spider swirls too.

By the time I got the hood, roof and one side compounded, clouds rolled in and so did some thunder, but today I lucked out and the rain, other than a few drops, stayed to the south and east of where I was. For the next few hours though, the sun would peek out for 20 seconds and then it would be cloudy again, so other than the above half/half shots, I only got a couple other good sun shots after polishing...and the first one isn`t that great.
Right after #105/orange waffle

After #105/orange waffle and #205/Meguiars yellow polishing at 1200 rpms

I was still getting faint holograms after using #205, first with a yellow Meguiars polishing pad and then an American Buffing black waffle finishing pad. Time to break out 3M`s Ultrafina and a blue Ultrafina pad-which I planned on doing anyway! Did the usual with it, spread at 1000 rpms, work in with enough pressure to lightly compress the pad with slow, 50% overlapping passes at 1800 rpms, then back down to 1000 rpms and light pressure to finish out. I then rewashed the car using ONR and then waxed with Clearkote`s Carnauba Moose. By this time it was late afternoon and the angle of the sun had changed considerably. I tried to get good sun shots but the results were so-so because of the angle of the sun late in the day.
All in all, I was pretty happy with how this car turned out. Not 100% defect free but a massive improvement in a 5 year old, dealer hacked black car in just one day of work.
