1968 Corvette convertible with a 427, paint correction only.

This car was a respray about 3 years ago. It had been wet sanded and compounded, but never finished off properly. There was also a lot of deep RIDS and swirls, which appeared to be from a old or dirty buffing pad. In a few areas the paint had shrunk down and needed to be wet sanded as well. The hatch for the top had been repainted and the owner wet sanded that before I arrived.

The owner had also been doing some things that marred and scratched the finish over the years. Upon completion he was given the tools/products needed to maintain the finish and I explained how to use them.

    Process:

Clay - Meguiars mild clay and Last Touch

Step 1 - M105 via rotary and Meguiars Solo heavy cutting pad

Step 2 - M105 via rotary and meguiars W7006 pad

Step 3 - M205 via rotary and LC white polishing pad

Step 4 - M205 via rotary and 3M UK finishing pad

    LSP - Dodo Juice Supernatural

It was snowing the day I got there so no outdoor before pics...

After....sorry, it was late when I finished and sun was almost gone. I will go back another day and take full sun shots.

The owner had some cool stuff in his garage that made for nice reflection shots...

The side pipes kicked up some dust when he pulled it back in...you can see it a little in these pics

Reflection of the `66 with a 427 and matching numbers...which I will be doing in the spring.

Shots with the halogen and dual xenon

...aside from the cars, this was my favorite piece of art in the garage!

Mods, feel free to delete if needed, but it is art

    Thanks for looking,

    Rasky

OMFG! If this is a true L-88 Vette like the one I previously owned, it`s worth BIG $$.

Great correction on the finish...but.... NO ENGINE SHOTS? Dude, when do we get to see true engines like those anyome? :doh

Go back and take pics of the engine! If it has a single 850 double-pump carb, aluminum heads, and a warning sticker by the shifter console stating that 106 min octane must be used or engine damage will result, then it sure as well be a L-88! If it has a six-pack carbs, it`s an L-89 and still worth big $$.

In my year `69, they only made 216 of them.

Please, get the shots of that engine bay!!

I will be going back when the sun is out...looking like Friday right now. This car is not original, but the blue `66 next to it is, and it is also loaded with the 427 and matching numbers. The black one has had the fenders widened, I belive he said the frame was off of a `76, except for the back 28 inches or so. It was a frame off restoration and sounds pretty bad ***!

I`ll take some engine pics when I go back.

    Nice work! :up

Does the owner use it much or take it to shows? I`d really like to see it in person! (I like the early C3`s)

Nice job on a great looking car.

Looks like you`re new to Autopia, how long have you been detailing for?

I think he said he only takes it out a few times a year now. I`ll ask him if he plans on going to any shows this year when I see him next.

    Thanks!

Been doing it a little over 18 years, but it`s only a part time deal for me the last 9 years now. I have full time job but my passion will always be in detailing. :wavey

I do most my posting over on MOL.

Okay, cool, glad to hear, I figured you had some experience, that was obvious I just hadn`t seen you on this forum before.

I like that Vette, looking forward to the write up on the other one I saw in the garage.
