Rick, I just wanted to say that I was very impressed with your skills on this job and definatly showed your true ability for correction on such a tough battle. Your true dedication really impressed me more than anything. It`s nice to not have to worrry about the other person and I can safely say I trust you 100%. For the first time in 18 years I can safely say your the best worker I have ever worked with. I give you an A+++++.

I know we always tell our customers we will exceed their expectations, but when the body shop guy inspected this car he was just beyond amazed and said he had NEVER seen a car come out so superb. I know he was a litttle upset with the price at first before he had seen the car, but after he had seen the car, he said "when can you do the next one"? I was laughing so hard.

What a great job guys. If I am ever in the area, I will def stop by and say hey. Just out of curiosity, would M105 have made it any easier for removing the sanding marks? Not doubting what you did just curious.

    GREAT JOB!

I`m speechless and therefore can only offer:

Synergy (from the Greek syn-ergo, συνεργός meaning working together, circa 1660) pp refers to the phenomenon in which two or more discrete influences or agents acting together create an effect greater than that predicted by knowing only the separate effects of the individual agents. It is originally a scientific term.

    Synergy can also mean:

A mutually advantageous conjunction where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

A dynamic state in which combined action is favored over the sum of individual component actions.

Behavior of whole systems unpredicted by the behavior of their parts taken separately. More accurately known as emergent behavior

    Thanks Thomas!

The shop owner was absolutely amazed when he saw it for the first time. He said that he`s got a lot more work for us in the future.

Thanks for the tips on the photos. I am still getting used my new camera. Todd helped us out over the phone before I took any. Thanks again Todd!

The shop was an absolute mess!

Ryan and I rinsed down the entire shop the next day. You wouldn`t believe the amount of compound dust and wool that was all over the floor

1500, 2000, all by hand, then followed by 3000 on the Trizact D/A? That shop really set it up for perfection! Got to love those door reflection shots.

Thanks Thomas. Your right about the new uploader. I uploaded pics of the Ford GT that I had done and it ruined the pictures badly. The ones that I uploaded seperatly came out perfect though, so I have to re-upload them seperatly when I get a chance.

    Got Leather-

You will definitely have to stop by if you are ever in the area

As for the M105, it just wasn`t doing anything on this rock-hard paint. I tried just about everything, but nothing came close to 3m Extra Cut. Three quarters of a bottle of Extra Cut that is!!!

    tom p.-

    Thanks for the compliments!

"The Dynamic Duo - taking the great Boston area by force of gloss!" ha,ha... I like that!! :grinno:

The car came out 100% orange peel free, but it was a royal PITA to get the sanding scratches out. Thank god for wool and Extra Cut!

That`s incredible. Great paintwork and great detail. I see you guys bent down buffing, have you guys ever considered using a stool? I have an adjustable height stool that comes in really handy. I`ve had one knee surgery already and I`m not wanting to ever have another.

It`s no wonder your body is sore when you`re kneeling like that. Obviously, you`re a pro, I`d be worried about losing my balance!!

Ryan, the same goes to you! I have been detailing for over 15 years now and know how hard it is to find someone that understands what it takes to take paint correction to another level. All I know is that there will be a lot of incredible work exiting our shop this summer! I`m glad to have another amazing detailer by my side.

As for the body shop owner, it was great to see the look on his face when he picked it up!

    Thanks for the kind words!

As you can see in the picture, I had a chair that I was using while buffing the higher areas. I am looking into purchasing a mid-rise lift in the near future.

I am getting old and my body can`t take the abuse like it used to!

I think they used 1000, 1500, 3000 trizact, but I will have ask to make sure. The paintwork came out superb. The sanding was just OK, but not that great. They did have a lot of pigtails from not cleaning their sanding pads enough. It would have been easier if we had worked on the next day after it was painted, but we had a lot of work in our shop and could not get to it soon enough.

The paint was harder than anything we have ever touched. It makes Corvette paint seem like melted butter. We used 32 plus oz. of just compound on this car, 2 full bottles of 90% straight alcohol, 40 new microfibres, worn out a bunch of new Megs polishing pads. Washed out the wool and foam pads over 40 times just to keep the dust down and the perfection at it`s peak.

Rick, can I ask a fundamental (perhaps dumb) question? I have been under the impression that when a car rolls out of the spray booth that it`s almost ready to hit the street. Is that not the case? Was there something significantly different about this job/car? This almost looks like the process one would have to go thru with a single stage finish (no clearcoat) and all the post work that would be needed to level the paint and create a high gloss.

I have a hard time believing that a body shop has to go thru this labor-intensive process with every crashed car they repair - - whether it`s a Benz or a Kia. Can you address that?

    Thx.

Well, in most cases you are correct, but this paint paint was unlike any other I have EVER dealt with! Like Ryan stated, this paint makes Corvette clear look like melted butter.

I forget the brand name of paint (I`m sure Ryan will chime in), but it is a high quality, super rock hard paint that is meant to be wetsanded and polished within a few days. We were busy at the shop and missed this window which made it much more difficult to correct.

Here is how bad the sanding scratches were after 2 full passes with Extra Cut using a yellow wool pad:

OK, thanks for clarifying. So, in some cases this level of post-finishing work is known and anticipated?

Is the finished product that much better in terms of appearance and durability over the next 5 yrs, for example? I`d be curious to hear the product name if Ryan knows it. I`d expect the owner to pay quite a premium with such a labor-intensive paint/clear.

    Thx.
