Interior Detail: TRASHED 04 Ford Territory Ghia 7 Seat Wagon

Last week I detailed this Ford Territory Ghia 7 Seat SUV Wagon for a dealer. They had it traded in on a new Mercedes Benz ML SUV.

It was owned by a family with 4 young kids and i presume they ate every single meal in this vehicle. The inside was trashed.

Outside was also detailed but dont have any pictures..

Pictures speak for themselves:

BEFORE: Side pocket at drivers seat base.

AFTER: Side pocket at drivers seat base.

BEFORE: Dog hair all through the rear cabin area.

AFTER: Dog hair removed after 3 hours of vacuuming, brushing and more vacuuming.

BEFORE: The junk from under the front passenger seat ONLY. This car has sooooo much rubbish and **** in it. Its revolting. Every compartment has melted lollies, spilt drink and rubbish stuffed in it.

AFTER: I filled 5 plastic supermarket bags full of rubbish out of this car. It was wedged so hard under the middle row of that they wouldnt slide in their rails.

BEFORE:The crud stuck between the left hand rear seat and the door. All these panels will need to be removed to be cleaned properly.

AFTER: After removing the panels we found every type of lolly ever made under them. God knows how they got under there. The carpet under these panels was also a very different colour - it was still new.

BEFORE: The crap stuffed in the middle row of seat`s hinges.

AFTER: Even after removing the plastic covers, it was still extremely awkward to get in there to vacuum the carpet properly. They did clean up nicely however. The pic is a bit blurry tho.

BEFORE: A dirty rear d!ckie (3rd row) seat. Leather is filthy yet still very very soft surprisingly.

AFTER: The base was easily removed (but was a PITA to re-install) which made for easy (or should i say EASIER) cleaning. Leather cleaned up quite well.

BEFORE: These are the runners that the d!ckie seat`s base is supposed to slide on.. Melted jubes, spilt soft drink and other debries were preventing it from sliding.

AFTER: Nice and clean again so the base can easily function the way it should.

BEFORE: Right hand rear door`s pocket. Squashed gum anyone?

AFTER: Nice and clean. Xenit works absolutle wonders. I love the stuff.

BEFORE: Dirty centre console.

AFTER: No more spilt drinks and sticky mess.

BEFORE: Dirty dirty dirty......

AFTER: Clean clean clean......

BEFORE: Some nice clean carpet.

AFTER: Some nice.... CLEAN.... carpet

This was the best result i could acheive in this small area. It it the carpet behind the drivers seat (at the base of the middle row of seats). When i was extracting it the recovery water was the darkest of brown i have ever seen before. It was unbeleivable. After extracting i treated this area again with a spot and stain remover and let sit overnight. The next morning i scrubbed and extracted again but it looked no different. The only solution here would be cover it up with some mats or re-dye the carpet.

And finally - just a random finished shot of the dash..

Came up far better than i anticipated and the dealership was amazed with the turnaround..

On the contrary, my car is immaculately clean but my room is a mess and haven`t detailed it in about 6-7 months. :nervous2:

Great job on the interior, Ringa! I love the way you brought it back to being an interior from being a dump.

Incredible job. I can only imagine the smell of the carpet.

It amazes me how people can let any of their possessions fall into such disarray, but with kids it can be tough.

I actually keep my car cleaner than my apartment, too. It bugs me more to have a piece of trash in my car than a dirty dish in my sink. I have to force myself to clean on a regular basis.

That is a fantastic job!!! I have had the same problem with stained carpets before. I believe the culprit is soda left to sit on the carpet for a very long time.

Great recovery. These jobs seem like they are never ending as you keep finding more "stuff" everywhere.

The worst cars I`ve done belonged to parents of kids younger than 3 y/o.

Food stains of every sort--everywhere. I did a Camry that was very similar to that Ford--it was revolting.

Filth happens--we clean it. :goodjob

Great turnaround. I love seeing interior details. Don`t see enough of them though. What chemicals/cleaners did you use on the carpets? Looks great. How long did you spend?

i cant believe how disgusting some people are, id charge double or turn that down, if i ever brought my car to someone to be detailed id atleast have some courtesy to clean up the loose trash

thanks for the kind words guys..

The car received a FULL detail so engine bay, wheels - inside and out, wheel wells, door jambs, subframe, spare wheel was lowered and cleaned - inside and out, and full interior..

I was lucky enough to have the vehicle for as long as i needed to detail it - i told the dealership it would probably be around a week as it would be an `in between job`

With 2 people working on it solidly, it took us 2.5 hours a day, for 5 days to complete.. so all up 2 worked on it for 12.5 hours (would of taken me double that alone ~25hrs)..

The seats themselves werent removed other than the third row of seats because the front ones were electric and had air bags in the sides and the middle row had a very complex slide/fold function.. All the plstic trimings/kickpanels that we against the carpet were removed however, to make it a little easier - took over an hour for us to reinstall those alone as there were so many pieces..

Carpets:

All the rubbish was remove, along with the loose items and the large amount of money stuffed everywhere (about $30 worth of loose change) and vacuumed thoroughly..

Areas where there was dog hair was aggitated thoroughly with a stiff scrubbing brush and vacuumed again..

Hard to reach places were blown out with compressed air, then the lot was vacuumed again..

The stains on the carpets (only a very few needed treating actually) were treated with PULLMAN CARPET SPOTTER and left to sit for half an hour..

The rest of the carpet was then sprayed liberally with OMIKRON KARPET KLEANER which was diluted at 5:1 - normally i cut it at a maximum of 10:1 a left to soak while the outside of the car was washed..

Carpets (an hour later) were then scrubbed with many different types and sized brushes - the carpets im guessing originally had some form of scotchguard on them as it didnt foam up when we were scrubbing (at such a high dilution rate there would normally be suds galore) which was a good thing.. I find protectors on carpets kill the suds in shampoos etc..

The lot was then extracted using my 30L twin motored (2 x 1000w) extractor in which i used 60L of fresh water and emptied the recovery tank 3 times..

It was then scrubbed with many many terry towells to reach places the extractor couldnt get to (between and behind seat rails) and also to dry as much of the carpet as possible..

a portable heater was placed beside each open door overnight to completely dry the carpet..

After all the dash and everything had been cleaned it needed another light vac before all the panels were replaced.. It was then brushed over with a scrubbing brush to restore the texture of the carpet..
