Todays Carrera detail, and I need a new camera.

60 miles round trip for this one. All in about a 6 hr day. The client went on the explain there was some body work done on the right rear hip and upper frame of this beauty, a short time ago. I have to admit, Porsche did an excellent job, with the exception of the post cleanup. Although moderate at best, the spiderwebs were a chore to remove. I went through several steps of trial and error to find a good combination. I didnt take b4 pics, as the spiderwebs werent that real discernable to begin with. This client takes exceptional care of this 05 Carrera.

I started with Optimum Polish, UDM, 5" Blue Das pad. Worked it in for quite some time, and there wasnt a real significant difference other then clarity. The SW`s just didnt budge. Moved up to a larger BP and Orange pad. A little better with the OC, but again, too much time involved, but a step in the right direction. Next up, the 3.5" BP, 4" Orange pad, and FS BS LCC. Night and day on my trial spot around the hip area. I then moved to a previously untouched area around the pass. door handle. This was the combination i had been looking for. I ended up doing the entire Carrera with a 4" Orange pad, which is a first for me. It easily removed all SW`ing after a product pass, breakdown pass, and finish pass, with an occasional 4th pass if I selected too small of an area for the amount of product i applied, or just had too much polish remaining on the pad. 99% of the surface was finished on about 4.5-5 on the UDM dial. A huge difference from 6, with a 6" BP, and 6.5" pad. This was a pleasant change of pace, with surprising results. I had misplaced my UPP (Until, naturally, I was completely finished) so I went with DG #111. I think I used about twice as much 111 as I would have with UPP.

The pics didnt come out to great, even when going to a larger MP on my 4 yr old whopping 2.0 MP digital camera. I think its time to break down and buy a nice Fuji 7 Meg.

Scott it certainly makes detailing less of a chore when your clients have a true desire to keep there cars up, by providing self maintenance. This particular client really cares for his Carrera on is own, and only calls for maintenance needs out of his expanse of knowlege, usually once a year. He really babies it though. Great client to work for!

60 miles once a year is ok with me also! I have to admit, he is probably responsible for 1/2 of the Carreras I have worked on.....

What color is that 997 C2S? Looks midnight blue. Also, looks to me he had the seatbacks done in full leather as well. Mostly done in Cab`s, since no one really sees them in a coupe.



DOn`t forget to inform him (if he`s not already aware) of the potential of damage to the A/C condenser coils in the front due to rocks hitting them if following too close. Porsche will not warranty it if it gets damaged. He can check RENNLIST 997 forum as several has had this problem. I myself even have more risk due to the Aerokit/GT3 bumper openings which are HUGE! Going in for screens one of these days.



I`m glad you got out the SW on the finish and restored it back 100%. Paint is so damn soft, it not hard to correct, and also not hard to go through paint in known low finish application areas.



Does he have an X51 engine? If you open the engine cover and see a carbon fiber airbox, that`s the X51 upgrade. $17K for 26HP. Looks as if he also has the SPort Exhaust (PSE) and I do see he has the Sport Chrono (also known as the "wart") on the dash.

Dean, its the Midnight Blue, and one gorgeous color. In the sun its blue, shade its nearly black. Maybe thats where they get the midnight blue from? Full leather backs. He had me use some Swissol leather de-glosser, which I thought was terrible. It apparently removes the glossiness from the seats, which I for one feel isnt a very good idea. It really felt like it left the seats `dry". I told him you want to slide on leather, not have it feel grabby. It smelled alot like alcohol. But its his car, his check, so i do what Im told. I did have to clean them prior with some diluted DG leather shampoo. Other then that, all the leather was just damp MF cleaned, which is fine.

He is a poster on Rennlist, I hope hes aware of your reference regarding the coils. The first time I did his Carrera a few years ago, i tripped the computers security module. He was baffled, and pissed (not at me) and actually had Porsche techs from germany come out to diagnose it, as his local dealer was unable to determine the exact reason why it happened. It tripped while buffing the plastic nose/headlight area from excessive static. Porsche now has solved the problem with that particular model, but hasnt issued a recall. But at least they know what to replace. I think I have tripped four now!! (Of course I warned each client and did my best to avoid it) It all may be for nothing, hes considering trading it in on a paddle shifter Aston when they come out :spot

It took me a while to find a good combo, which I explained in the beginning, but once I fig`d it out, it sure cleaned up beautifully.

I dont think he has the X51 upgrade, as I didnt notice the CF anywhere in the compartment while "tidying" it up with some 303, and Freedom One for water spots on the painted portions.

Yes on the PSE which just sounds wicked! And yes on the "wart" which I hadnt even noticed before (maybe its an afterthought item?) but my son pointed out to me. Kind of neat to know what you can do 0-60/100 in !

What! Are you kidding? Those AM`s are in the words of Nicole Riche "THAT`S HOT"! I love the look of the AM`s, just don`t like the road feel, or the fact the parent company Ford ownes them and doesn`t give them enough freedom to improve the line. Other than the road feel, these cars drive really well and look sexy doing it! TO have one with paddle shift SMG would be sick.



As for the feel of Porsche leather, it does feel "grippy" when new. Not soft unless it`s the other supple leather, that ones soft. In fact, I like the feel of the leather. The Sonus leather conditioner makes it feel and smell like brand new Porsche leather w/o fragrance. As much as I like Z-10, it`s a bit overpowering in the fragrance end, but it has that new leather smell down to a "T". I understand Sal has a newer version of it, bluish in color? I`ll have to ask Sal one day.



The headlight issue is a known problem on early model "P" cars. There is a fix TSB from Porsche on that very problem. Have yet to see it on 997 2005 and current.



One of these days I`ll get to play correcting my C2S. It`s been really busy for me.



You did one fine job on that Porsche!!! Let the local/regional club know of your work and soon there will be a line to schedule work!!
