Brother and his family live up in Ohio. So I flew up there this past w/e to give his rides some TLC.

First up is the beater truck. I guess they have had this truck for approx 3 years. Besides for the occasional hand wash and touchless wash thru the winter it only gets attention from me.

Last Oct I gave it a QEW and one coat of Z5pro, that was it.

This time more extreme measures where needed. I think it needed them back then but there was no time on that trip.

This is what it looked like when I arrived from my phone camera:

A few pics after scrubbing the tires, wheels and wells with SG 1:4. Yes we found the real camera by then:

As you can see this truck takes a beating. It was used by my dad when they built my brothers house. My dad was in town a few weeks ago, somehow a board slipped off of the top of the tailgate and did this:

    Swirled all over like this:

Here is what I brought with me:

    Hitachi rotary

    PC

    Yellow/white CCS pads

New edge black wool, green wool/foam combo pad with adapter.

    New menzerna SIP

    presta 1500/SMR polishes

    ZPC, ZAIO, Z2pro, Z5pro, Z6 and Z18 claybar.

So I tried out the new menzerna super intensive polish first with a white CCS pad/rotary on the hood. First few section its worked really nice, removing 90% of the defects and finishing out very nice. Then I am not sure if I was using too much product or maybe the CCS pad does not work well with this polish. It was caking up on the pad and took longer to breakdown on the paint. It still seemed to cut nice and finish out nice. Then I tried using less product and it seemed that it did not want to cut enough for me. Maybe mixing in 25% RMG would of helped? I did not have any RMG with me. So end of that trail for now.

Next up was the Edge foam/wool combo pad. I took the pad outside and ran it on the rotary at low speed and applied my wet hand to the wool pad to try and get some of the excess wool off. Seems like a good amount came off.

I first tried it with presta 1500 on the wool and followed with SMR on the foam. I applied presta 1500 to the green wool pad and spread it out on the door panel. IMO the presta 1500 seemed thin as I spread it. I fired up the hitachi on low and boy is this setup (wool/edge adapter) smooth. I polished at 1500 till the polish started to turn somewhat clear. It came off very easy as I wiped it off. I then flipped the pad over to the green foam, applied some SMR to the pad and worked it into the paint. I then polished at 1500 till the polished turned clear. The foam was not as smooth as the wool, but was still well balanced with the edge system.

I was pretty happy with the results.

I then remember reading where John and Ryan had good results using ZPC with wool and following it with foam. So I used ZPC with both the green wool and foam.

Sorry about my lack of capturing good before and after pics. Even though these are not at the same distance I think you can tell a difference:

Before, note you can see in the before pic the wool is still shedding as that is from the previous panel.

By the time I took the before pic, did the two polishing step and took the after pic only 10 mins had passed.

Here is a pic of the same area after ZAIO

Next up was the tailgate. The scuffs where pretty deep and the scratches above the handle where nail catching deep...

I started with the green wool/presta 1500 and green foam/SMR. After 2 passes with the wool and one with foam, I had good improvement:

I wondered how much more could be cut out of the scuffs. It was time to break out the black wool. Now the black wool is edge`s heaviest cut wool. I am wondering what kind of micromarring I am going to end up with and how much work it would take to get it out. It took about 3 passes with 1500/black wool but I was about to make a good reduction. I followed with ZPC and the green foam and it cleaned everything up pretty well.

Sorry that I did not get all the polished wiped off.

I finished out the rest of the truck with green wool/foam and ZPC. I got to the point where I was not even wiping off the ZPC after the wool. Just follow with ZPC on green foam and then wipe off that whole side of the truck.

Z6 wipedown to get rid of the dust and wool shedding. I then did ZAIO to the entire truck via PC6 white LC pad. Applied 1x of Z5pro.

The after pics where taken the next morning, of course it was a nice cloudy day.

Pardon the wax on the trim, I think my dad gave this truck a wax job a few years ago. I guess I need to clean it off one day. Did not have any MCME with me. Also I forgot the Z-16. ops:

I`ve been having that exact same problem with all colors of CCS pads and Blackfire`s version of Menzerna`s SIP. Cakes up and splatters like crazy, regardless of the amount of polish you use. I`m going to give it another shot today on an orange pad with some PO106FF mixed in, or possibly some of Menzerna`s Final Touch Glaze.

    Great job Bryan!

Wait till you see it in the sun and it should sparkle excellent.

I used the SIP this weekend on a 99 Passat Blue and I did not have many pad hop or cake up problems. I think the humidity has a big role on this polish after reviewing it on other uk forums. I shook the hell out of the bottle too for 20 minutes just to make sure everything is well shooken up. SIP= shaken intense polish

Presta 1500 on a wool does just glide over the surface easily and smooth. Doesn`t really get any smoother than that.

Also John was using ZPC polish on a lambswool pad with super excellent results from his last C+B. I love ZPC on a white lc pad via zpc as a finish polish. ZAIO does also do a great job at this and also deepens the paint as well. I use either or on every one of my details with excellent results!

Again great job and especially on those harsh scratches. I know Dodge has hard paint too.

Thanks Ryan! The humidity was not that bad at all on friday when I used the MIP. I will try shaking it more and using a different pad next time.

Also thanks for getting me interested in wool, it really does add some excellent gloss to the paint.

Funny how ZPC acts as an excellent lube for a wool pad. John really had that one nailed when he did the black buick last week.

Thanks everyone else for your kind words.

Greg, Get the wool, you will love it.

    Great work Bryan!

Your brother will probably invite you back after that clean up :woot2:

I see that you used multiple polish products via wool on the paint.

What combo worked best for you?

I can`t wait to see the X5 detail.

I read on another thread that you just picked up a Metabo. Congrats!

I think you`ll really enjoy it.

    Thanks John!

As long as he buys me those $35 steaks for dinner I am good.

Hard to say if I prefered ZPC or the presta 1500/SMR. I should of split those deep scuffs in half on the rear and tried both. With more time I should be able to tell.

I should be able to post the X5 late tonight after work.

I am excited about the metabo, it will arrive just in time for the porsche 928 this w/e.
