    Street Racing Made Safe 10/1/2016

For the first time I attended a "Street Racing Made Safe" event at Palm Beach International Raceway. Street Racing Made Safe is a non-profit organization that provides a safe and legal alternative to illegal street racing. From what I`ve heard (and now seen) the event has grown big time. Although the runs are not officially timed, the winning lane is electronically marked after each run. So if you`ve got the itch to test a new setup, or want to settle a dispute between you and a friend; you can legally race at a Street Racing Made Safe Event.

    Where: @racepbir
    Time: 6pm- midnight
Price: $25 to race. $10 spectators. $25 VIP Parking (very close to the stands). Kids under 12 are free

I arrived around 6:30 pm EST and the parking lot was already full of cool cars. As I worked my way through the line of cool cars, I was asked by an event worker if I came to spectate or race. Having just changed my oil to full synthetic Mobil 1, I considered allowing my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder to spread its wings and roar down the drag strip. As I contemplated quenching my need for speed, my better half stepped in and answered from the passenger seat "SPECTATOR Please".

As we quickly walked to find our friends, the smell of petrol already filled the air. We had to walk by the starting line and got our first glimpse of the nights action.

I was excited to see that the pre-race area was not only full, but full of cool cars.

As the sun got lower, the music seemed to get louder. The only thing missing was Vin Diesel.

The mix of cars and bikes were great. There were Hondas racing Corvettes. I love going to events that don`t just cater to one type of car crowd.

I offered this guy $100 and a case of beer to let me take his ZX14R down the track. He declined :/

The action didn`t stop all night. I saw a diverse crowd and a lot of families. Everyone seemed super friendly and it was a great time. Beer was served, but I never saw anyone have too many drinks.

Fun fact: Ron only runs for pinks

And that`s how he ended up with a red vette in his driveway

It was a great time and we`re looking forward to attending the next event in November. If you`re looking for a good time or just happen to live your life a quarter mile at a time, this is an event you should not miss.

    Thanks for reading,

So they don`t use the light tree and don`t use the timers? I wonder why not?

I`m guessing next time your better half might be spectating and you might be racing your bike.

I would enjoy watching real cars drag race vs drag cars.

Ron does need to bring his slouch of Vette to one of these races. Can you say drag radials

Glad you had fun. Prices seem like a real good deal.

They try and make it seem like a "street race", so you can either roll race or start from a stop and honk before running just like street racing. I heard that it would be more expensive or insurance requirements are higher when the light tree is being used too but I`m not sure.

It was a great deal and some of these cars are FAST, and they drive back home too!

    Ray,
Too bad you had to sell the bike. Your life expectancy just went up 60 more years. Once we had kids I believe my wife said she would be filing for divorce if I ever brought home a cycle.

I`ve seen and heard about too many fatal crashes involving cycles. Two weeks ago a guy bought a bike off Craigslist and less than a mile down the road a farmer in his pickup failed to yield on a left turn. DRT. My friend was the Deputy on scene girlfriend of deceased was witnessed the crash.

Up here in WI, I`ve heard of anything from turkeys, bear, and deer killing motorcyclists. Too many variables.

Wow...long lines at the pit! That`s awesome. I remember hitting the track and having a great time a few years ago. Now, my boys are in football so my tree lights have become Friday Night Lights. Wish I could join you!

Here`s the SRMS Top Ten List:

    1. Frustrate EG Civic
    2. Velocity Factor Evo X
    3. C&S Transmission Firebird
    4. Miami Performance Inc. MKIV Supra
    5. Red Fox Body Ford Mustang
    6. White MKIV Supra (Rob)
    7. Rare Fab SVT Lightning
    8. KAB Customs AE86 Corolla

There were some FAST Civics there and that SVT Lightning was great to watch make some fast runs.

Here`s a video of that #1 (GTR Killer) Civic:
