    Akebono Brake Pads

Many years ago I bought a set of Akebono brake pads based on a recommendation on here. They were great, low dust, lasted I don`t remember how many years to be honest.

As times have changed, are Akebonos a brand you all still use or has technology changed and there are better options?

Also, what is the difference between their Performance Pads and their ProACT Ceramic pads in terms of dusting? I assume the Ceramics dust less.

I use StopTech pads with my Brembo`s on my 09 Jeep SRT8 (cheep, low dust, no squeal, stop very well, and don`t over heat at the track).

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

Akebono is the supplier for alot of OEM pads, I would use them with confidence. I plan on using a set when I rework the brakes on the S10 coming up in the spring. They`re about twice as much as the other brands, but you get what you pay for.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

I`ve had Akebono in our Audi not too long ago. Quiet, mostly clean, very long wear characteristics and real e-z on the rotors. However, as with "ceramic" pads, braking and pedal effort is compromised, IME.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

Been using Akebono pads for almost 20 years. Great product. Low dusting long lasting.

Am using the Pro Acts IIRC because they are even lower dusting than the regulars with the same or better stopping ability.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

Ceramic pads do dust less & are kinda similar to a a/s tire great all around but doesn`t stand out in any one area. Great for a DD.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

The ceramic dust is more of a lighter dust that does come out. Looks more similar to the color of a standard oem silver painted wheel so it isn’t as noticeable as the dark heavy dust of some pads

Akebono makes good pads. Probably wouldn’t use them on laguna seca lol but around town and on a normal car wouldn’t hesitate one of the only non oem pads I would trust

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

I switched from the akebonos to Hawk HPS. I`ve had them on a couple of cars now. A bit more dust but better braking....especially before pads get warmed up.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

Put Akebono pads on my E class Merc about 3 years ago, still love them. Quiet, smooth, no grabbing and not much dust.
They are used as oem on a lot of Japanese cars.
They need more pressure on the brake pedal than normal pads but after about a month you dont notice.

Braking on the limit is still 100% so safety isnt compromised at all.

    Highly recommended.

    Re: Akebono Brake Pads

My brother just bought a 2008 E 350 Base Benz.

After looking at how badly the factory pads dust, I recommended the Akebonos.

He plans on using them when his current pads wear out.
