Would you have this fixed? Wait??

Was doing a rinseless wash today and noticed these on both sides. Would you have the dealer fix? Wait? I`m a little worried that if they try to fix it, they will mess it up more or screw something else up.

There was no "disclosure" form given to me. Paint felt/looked the same as rest of car.

That sucks! Take it back to the dealer. If your car has this trouble I`m sure there are others. It may continue to peel. It reminds me of the new 1977 Ford LTD II I bought and the paint peeled off of the whole hood. I thought those dark days were long gone.

I would have it repainted by the dealer who sold you the car.

Rohkh- I fear that eventually that`ll *have* to be fixed lest things become utterly unbearable by most any standard

The dealership should absolutely pay to have that fixed while having nothing to do with choosing the process by which it becomes fixed. Their version of "fixing" it adds a completely new level of problems that will have to be fixed. Crazy a defect like this pops up this early!

The way the vent is mounted and flexes, I wonder if this isn`t somewhat common.

I`m really sorry man. That would look bad even on a Mini Cooper. Fix it, fix it now and find out what the vibration is that is causing that problem so it doesn`t repeat. Might be as simple as some padded double stick tape under the black piece. I kind of doubt the repaint as it is happening in two places. I suspect there is contact between the black piece and the paint.

A good painter can make it so that you never know it was painted. Ask questions, ask a lot of them and make sure they understand your expectations (nothing short of perfection) going into it. Tell them that you expect to check off and approve every step in the job. Many body shops will update you with daily pictures showing what stage your car is at.

I think you remember the issues I had this past winter where the uninsured driver hit my father`s car that I had driven as it was sitting parked on the street. I made sure they understood what was expected and you`d never know that the rear bumper had been repainted. It can be done.

Can you back the picture out so I can get my head around exactly where this is on the car?

Re: Would you have this fixed? Wait??

Take it back, and make it clear to them that you will give the car a thorough inspection when they give it back to you. That will continue to flake off gradually(depending on how poorly prepped the surface underneath the rest of the surrounding paint is, it may be a slow or fast process). That makes me wonder if they repainted at some point and just used SS since it may have been at the Dealer`s expense; since you haven`t polished it yet....anyway you can do a check to see if it is SS ? it looks just how my white SS paint looked when it was all dead and flaking off around edges like this.
