I agree and black wheels tend to just look dirty. For me they are best pulled off with at the very least a chrome lip or chrome inserts. Something to break the black up a bit.

I can`t work up a lot of enthusiasm for any flat or satin paint scheme - even as a trim. It reminds me of the primer look - oops I forgot the color coat!

I can remember when people used to paint their cars with primer and leave it primed.

Then someone got the idea of BLACK primer.

Now they use black primer with satin clearcoat.

I think it`s about the "badness" factor.

It`s become over done. I do like the old school rods that do some satin black then accent it with a super high gloss black. I saw a picture of one recently and I wish I could find it. I think it was from SEMA.

It`s not for me Bill. There is something about a black car that shines like a mirror. Having a matt or satin takes away from the beauty of a black car.

I only like seeing it on old school rat hot rods.

I have a good buddy that drives a truck for a living and the truck he drives is a show truck. It has that extended wheel base and a big lowered bumper on the front and the truck is painted flat black and looks like a 1930`s hot rod. It`s SUPER cool and he won best in show in Joplin a year or so ago, which is the most prestigious truck show in the country, also won 10 g`s for it.

I`m up in the air on the flat black too, but on the right car (or truck) it can look pretty cool. I`ll try to find a pic of his on the net, it`s really cool.

It looks shinier in the photos, but it`s pretty "flat".

Well call me old fashioned or a traditionalist but the flat or satin finish dosen`t do a thing for me. The trend of black wheels also ranks very low on my scale. I don`t think this trend will survive the test of time as flame paint jobs , torque thrust style or chrome spoked wheels have. Some trends keep coming back for years and thankfully some don`t . Old muscle style of cars were in when new and still going strong. Remember when guys raked the front or back end ? Didn`t look good then and never made much of a comeback. How about bowed out wheels that stuck out way past the wheel wells ? I`ve seen a lot of trends come and go in my 60 yrs and certain ones have a way of surviving over the yrs . We will just have to wait and see on these latest trends.

I`ll join the camp of "no interest" in the new flat or matte blacks or greys. I also don`t like black wheels. I do understand the youthful desire for that sinister look but to me it lacks style and pizzazz. I do accept it`s popularity however I personally need color and shine. I also don`t really like chrome wheels.

FWIW, I noticed that Bentley has a $16K option this year for a satin paint finish.
