    Installing an AC Unit

My 87 Ford Ranger is in great shape for its year, but the only draw back is no AC...It was an option on that year...The control panel has the adjustments for it

I wonder what it would take to install the AC

The pump that attaches to the motor would be easy the brackets are in place already...would require a new belt...I`m just a tad unclear about what else I would have to do

You would have to get a kit for your truck, it would come with all you need to install. It would come with compressor, evaporator, condensor, accumulator, all lines, brackets and electrical parts.I havent bought one of those in 23 years. Good luck beemer. They used to make a under dash mount kit also that would be easier for the interior stuff.

Your right they had one for about a grand...not worth the cash for that...I sort of knew that going in.

The wrecking yard would be the best place to look for OEM parts I think.

As I said the truck is wired for it, controls and all

You would have to convert it to 134A refridgerant.

Sounds like a larger job than is feasible, to bad its the only thing about this truck that I would really like to have.

do you have the factory housing for the evaporator core? If not you would have to add that....

Also, is the IAC installed as well?

Unless the parts are available cheap from a donor vehicle then the cost of new parts would exceed the value of you truck. Just an old mans 2 cents.
