heres a question,,was it running when u tried to fill it? the jimmys do have an on board vapor recovery sys, if its running the valve wont allow vapors to escape therefore the fuel backs up in the fuel neck.

ok .. I consulted a master mechanic... first why it happened ...these vehicles can not be topped off when filling..when it stops pumping that`s it...if you do gas will go into the air line and clog the line, thus no venting will happen and no gas will be allowed into the tank ... only other cause is a crushed air line..then replacing the line is needed...
oh yeah the cure...Brenton..remove the charcoal filter and the gas cap..blow compressed air through the line where the filter was...replace the filter and then go fill up
Hey Steve, that`s awesome.
I did that, but didn`t know it would fix it. So while I had the air hose off, I filled up. I`ll try filling again and see if it is fixed.

So we got it working.
We did what Steve suggested, taking the line off and blowing air through it. No game, because the valve in the filter was broken (air going only one direction). So we replaced the valve ($25), a quick repair to an annoying problem.
But Steve`s solution helped us locate the problem. With the line off, we could put gas in, so the problem is isolated. We just had to nail down whether it was a line problem, blockage or (in this case) the valve.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his altima. I forgot exactly what it was but it was a cheap fix.. If i see him walking his dog tonight I will hit you back....I wanna say it was some type of sensor in the gas tank that shuts off the tank when full which is why the gas wont go down.
OOPPS nevermind.. Should have read entire post...
