Like those who own (and race) thoroughbred horses you have certain ongoing maintenance/care costs which will be above normal. Those that can afford that initial hit already have those additional costs factored into their purchase decision.
The feeling I have is if you can afford to buy it, you can probably afford to maintain it.
It wasn`t the financial part as much as it would be the hassle of having to have it in the shop constantly.
I have no idea if that would be a problem with the Porsche, but it has often been a problem with high performance automobiles in the past.
Like I said, it will be interesting what Deanski`s experience in owning one will be like.

I agree, I don`t know about the ongoing costs of maintaining this Porsche. I will say, with a certain amount of certainty, that is going to be more expensive than <pick your domestic hauler>. Foreign maintenance (IME) is automatically more expensive. I know that from buying my first Datsun product, my first Volvo product, and my first VW product. Those extra maintenance/repair costs didn`t make them bad vehicles, just more expensive when they were in the shop.

Patrick, nice ride! IS that one Basalt black?

I found out that my C2S in now in PLPROD which means it`s ready for production.

However, there is a strike in Germany and it also impacts Porsche as they are getting workers to walk off the site for several hours.

So, it`s still scheduled for late April or May delivery.

One problem, no satellite radio! But, some of the owners of 997`s have fitted the Cayenne`s kit into the 997. It does work, but the antenna was not designed for under the wiper cover area.

Yes it`s normal for a "spec" Porsche. First you have to find a dealer that as an allocation for a factory order, then spec your car, submit it and wait. It also has to go over water, to port, clear customers etc.

I did spec my C2S with all types of HP parts. Not one dealer has one on the ground the way I wanted my car, so I did what most Porsche owners do, order your very own.

As for reliability, first scheduled maintenance: 20,000 miles!

Re: My new 06 997 Porsche Carrera S!

WOW Congrats on the Porsche. Tough decision between the Porsche and Z06. I hope to be making a very similair decision real soon. I am leaning more towards the Z06 since I am such a HP junkie. But there is something to be said for the quality of the Porsche. I have always loved them but I think it would take a TT or GT# to make me happy, I could be wrong. I cannot wait to see the pics.

I would definitely go with the Zaino Z2p. You cannot go wrong with the PO85RD either. Does the P have ceramic paint? Either way I do not think you can beat the 085rd or 106ff.

I hate to ask personal questions but how did the price compare to the 06 Z06? You can PM me if you are more comfortable.

Will this be a DD or WE car?

Does it come with a leather dash? You also need to pick up some Z9 and Z10 for the seats.

Hang in there, spring/your P car will be here soon.

Re: My new 06 997 Porsche Carrera S!

Funny, I started looking into the Z06, but after driving a Porsche C2S there is no way I could accept a Z06! And, I`m a former L-88 Vette owner (`69) and which I still had that monster. Yes, the Vette has gobs of HP and Torque, but interior SCREAMS GM, steering feels like you`re driving a much bigger car and not as responsive. Oh yea, it is noisy, hot and after you park it, enjoy the smell of melting plastic! The interior gets alot of road noise from tires and other noises, it gets hot as hell in there. I guess it`s from using balsa wood floor wrapped in carbon fiber. BUT... If you`re a muscle-car person, then the Z06 is for you. Next, try to get a test drive...Most dealers have them in showroom and will not let most test these things.

I myself love to drive fast around corners, handling and feel is what I like. OK, so maybe It`s not as fast off the line, but in the twisties, it`s damn fast, sounds great, looks great, interior is the best "P" car yet. Steering is by far, the best feel!

As for price, well, how much HP stuff do you want? Let`s see, I added Sport Exhaust, Sport Shifter, Adaptive Sport Seats, Sport Steering Wheel, Porsche Ceramic Brakes, Aerokit, Sport Chrono, Bose, Nav, and a few other items. Now the C2S starts at $82K. Add all that... $117K. And thats not with the X51 power upgrade another $17K for only 26HP... NOT!

So the Vette is a bargin, but if you want to drive it all the time, be ready for noise, hot and unresponsive steering feel. But you have 500HP! BTW, don`t believe all you read in Motor Trend. That rag is HEAVY GM influenced! Besides, compare 500HP to 355HP...Now if it was a GT3 or Turbo, now you have a better match!

My "P" car will be a WE car for now. Oh yea, no ceramic paint. Soft as hell Porsche paint!
