    Re: Painting my hood

Should be billed at about 4 hrs of labor + paint. Labor rates are diffrent by area. In the midwest they range from 45-75 an hour usual rates are about 65 in the Madison area where I live. Depending on where you go you will be looking at diffent paints as well. Try and find soneone who uses either an RM brand (galssurit, dimont) which is my personal prefrence, although there are other good paint companies as well. Usualy if your in a bigger city you can expect labor rates to be higher. If your hood is in perfect shape you are going to be looking probably at 300-400. If it needs minor work or a lot of scratches, chips which need to be sanded out your looing at 350-500. Keep in mind good work is expensive and in this buiz you get what you pay for. Best bet is look at the finnished jobs in front of there shop, and ask people you know who care about there cars where they go and why. Good luck with the painting.

buy a new hood and get it painted it will be like 90$ for the hood and around 120 maybe less for the painting!

if you get your original hood painted with the rock chip repair it will be around 200$

um where do you expect to get a brand new cavi hood for 90 bucks? Aftermarket? Chevy parts arn`t overly expensive, but I would be hard presed to find one that cheep used let alone new.... and I`m talking American!

    Re: Painting my hood

It`s all about the Canadian dollar! I`m gonna check out Ebay and local places for hood prices and compare it to doing the whole hood.

    Thanks for all the help!

    Re: Painting my hood

I have been a refinish tech for the last 20 years and you would be looking at 4.5 hours paint labor and somewhere around 2 to 3 hours repair time for the chips also figure in material cost which is $24.00 per labor hour so 6.5 or 7.5 hrs times $24.00. Total cost around $450.00. This would be for a quality repair done in a quality shop.

    Re: Painting my hood

Yes it does get sanded down. However you would be suprised the little divits that they leave! So in order for them to make the panel smooth again there is more work involved!

    Re: Painting my hood

I am actually thinking about repainting my hood, due to about 10 rock chips myself, thanks for all the info guys.

One more thing, how much would it cost if i wanted a perfetly free OP finish?

Would it be just one more or 2 more layers of clear?
