Since you cant hear the car.. Hear the BOOM!

So little off the normal detailing topic but it was really cool so thought I would share. At the shop I share space with Walnut Creek Customs. We had a customer with a black MS that wanted a full correction, Xpel, and Opti Coat Pro. While he was here he noticed that we also install car audio and expressed interest in upgrading his audio. Well the guys at Walnut Creek Custom share the same mentality as I do and knocked it out of the park! This install looks like it belongs there and added so much over the factory sub.

We decided to use a JL Audio 8w3 paired to JL HX300.1

This amp is made to be extremely efficient and put no extra draw on the electric system.

The best location seemed to be the the rear cubby. This is the most popular location for after market subs, but we didn`t want lose any cargo space. This is why we went with an 8` sub. The 8w3 from JL sounds greats and after hearing it.. You would never guess it was just one 8 in woofer!

With specs taken we started building!

When making a custom enclosure we use fleece material to lay fiber glass resin on. It lets us make an exact fit!

Mounting the woofer prior to glass to make sure its a snug fit in the car while staying flush.

Time to get messy! Starting the fiber glass process.

After the fiber glass hardens we reinforce it with bondo. Its really important for sound quality to have no flex in the custom enclosure. Also with this we could sand it and paint it!

No one will ever see this but it looks amazing!

And done! We decided to leather wrap the box and make the accent ring color matched to the interior. We`ve since done 4 of these installs.

The way we wire and and hide everything you would think it all came with the car. Even the amp is snuggly hidden in the dash and minus the JL Audio name it looks like it belongs.

This MS was had the option alcantara head liner so instead of leather we finshed the box with same material. And being this was a midnight metallic we went with a billet brushed inset ring.

This one was leather wrapped with alcantara inset ring!

We can customize this several different ways. And unlike a lot of the pre fab subs for MS this is a completely covered unit and flush with side wall. So no risk of damaging the sub with a trunk full of cargo and no room lost for hauling. This System can be installed with or with out the audio upgrade from the factory and sounds great with both. Along with being to still use factory control to turn base up and down we hide a bass remote with in driver reach to turn the sub up or down.

P.S. Done shots of the cars! All 3 of these got full paint corrections, nano coatings, and about 60% Xpel coverage.

    Thanks for looking

Looks very classy. My model S has an access to the rear footwell compartment in this location. Does this cover up that access? Also, is this easily removable in order to access the high voltage lines near the charge port?

Very nice work. Integrates nicely with the factory interior!
