so what`s the best GPS navigation system for under $150 (new and not refurbished) and any specific brands to look out (tomtom, garvin)? also, would getting one with the lifetime traffic updates be wise? thanks...

i was looking at these, any thoughts (reviews seem favorable)?

TomTom 4.3" XL 335SE GPS Navigation System: GPS & Navigation $129.00

TomTom XL 335S 4.3" Portable GPS: GPS & Navigation $98

I`ve been very happy with my Garmin Nuvi. Mine is the Nuvi 680, which was about $400 three years ago though. However, Costco has a Garmin down to $129 now:

I have bought and replaced numerous GPS for my kids. I have had Magellan (worst), Tom Tom (ok) and Garmin (most popular with my kids and still works!) I have found the Magellans to just fall apart, and their customer service was AWFUL. If I have to replace another I am going to stick with the Garmin`s.

Garmin and don`t worry about refurb. Buy them all the time in all kinds of electronic products with never an issue.

garmin 1300. Get it from best buy, purchase a warranty for $20 and for 2 years if anything happens you just walk in and get a replacement.

Or buy it with an Amex card and get a free double warranty. I think each has its pros and cons. I like the TomTom interface better and the fact that you can connect it to your PC and create routes to download (say you want to take a scenic route). Garmin has better maps in rural areas and very good customer service. Skip the traffic crap, I live in the DC metro area and its totally worthless. If they can`t get traffic right in a major metro area, don`t count on it working elsewhere.

I may be biased but I have a Pioneer f500bt that I have for sale that Ill let go for $150. The unit is great since it has a 5.3 inch screen and is able to play movies and what not on it. It also has a little amp 15 RMS to play the gps directions and bluetooth over the speakers. Also has the reverse camera as well. I dont have the cigarette lighter plug so that would need to be bought for like $20

On a serious note, the pioneer has some features that other dont. One is that you can upload speed cameras and red light cameras to the maps and it will alert you when close to them. It also shows the speed limits of major highways and will alert when you are over. Im only getting rid of it so that I can do a double din one with the radio/hd radio, etc, etc.

You can go to avic411.com for more info on the hacks available for the pioneer units.

Probably a shameless post but even if you dont want a used gps, these are great units. But well over the $150 mark last time I checked.
