    WHAT!!!

Are you telling me that stack of road maps I have collected over the past 40 years are no longer up todate?

Had GPS units, seldom used them to be honest.

Nice to have in some situations, as I drove all over this country when working.

Maps gave me an excuse to pull into a lot of interesting little coffee shops and try the pie.

    LOL!

I gotta agree with Ben, google maps on Android, blows them all away. The way it drops down to street view when you get close is awesome.

The TomTom GO Live 1535M`s is a solidly performing GPS device and its app integration for search is a nice first, but that`s hardly this PND`s strongest feature. The killer app here is TomTom`s clever use of automatic Twitter tweets to keep friends and family in the loop about where you`re going and when you`ll be there.

I have a Garmin too. During a taxi trip in Seattle, I asked the guys which ones they preferred. The cabbies that had Garmins loved them, the guys that had other brands wanted me to buy theirs so they could get a Garmin.

    That statement speaks volumes.

waze. its free for your smartphone

i like that it gives you live traffic, alt routes and users can update it with incidents, police presence, traffic cameras, etc that a normal gps wouldnt/couldnt do. its a bit of a resource hog so i recommend turning all non-essential apps off and using it with a charger.

if you need a built-in or standalone unit i liked the garmin which i rarely use.

I love waze for traffic but not as much for routing. I prefer Motion-X for routing. I`ve all but abandoned my standalone GPS units.

If you own a smart phone, download a gps app. It will be cheaper, and probably a lot more convenient.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. i have a dedicated tomtom gps but never really use it since most cell phones come with them and with that said, i`ve been using the waze app. another one is the scout gps app as well...

p.s. just got to make sure you to have it charging while driving otherwise it will drain your battery quick...

I prefer the Garmin products, but these days a smartphone works damn well.` If you get an actual GPS unit from any maker make sure you buy one that has free lifetime map updates and I suggest one with traffic updates too if you live in an urban area.` The traffic updates route you the fastest way based on current traffic conditions.` For Garmins look for "LMT" in the product number indicating "lifetime maps and traffic".` The unit will have a traffic receiver built into it or the charging cord.` To update the maps you plug`your unit`into your computer with an included USB cord and connect to the Garmin website.
