They also had the Escort 9500ci (Escort Radar Detectors & Laser Detectors - The Radar and Laser Experts - Escort Inc.).

The K40 is a completely invisible detector, meaning that the indicators are hidden in the dash, and all that you can see is a blinking LED. The Escort has a display and a small control panel. I did some research and I found an "unbiased" review on radartest.com that the Escort blew away the K40. However, k40 will supposedly pay for your ticket if you get one with their detector. [COLOR="Red"]radartest.com is a biased website that sells radar, for future referrence any website that does reviews on radar and then sells that so called BEST radar is biased. K40 is the pioneer of radar and laser protection. [COLOR="Red"]

Both units are "custom installed", meaning that you can conceal the units, and they must be professionally installed. THey are not portable units.

Both provide X, K and Ka as well as laser detection. Both also provide laser frequency "shifting" to help protect you from laser.

She also said that she could install either for $2000 installed, which seems to be about average for the Escort, and about $400 less than average for the K40.

Have any of you used either of these systems, and what did you like/dislike? Which would you recommend and why?

Here are some K40 websites you should visit.

    Milani,

It is a preference, If you have the money to spend then go with a consealed remote radar like the K40, they other the most radar/laser detection with incorporating a rear radar/laser receiver pair that up with there EX or EX2 laser defuser and there speeding ticket guarantee you have the most protection for the money. If you want to save some money but still have protection I would go with a portable radar and or dashmount from escort, that is what they are known for and the other several different ones.

Here are some sites you should visit and keep in mind if you do research on the internet for radars, be careful any website that sells the vary radar they rank the best, probably has a reason for it ( TO SELL IT ). Trust only independent sites that do not sell radar.

alot of cops roll around 24/7 with their radar on and probably about 70% of the speed traps here they are not using instant on/POP. When they do use instant on you pick them up a mile away with short bursts of radar when they are hitting people up the road.

    Thats nice.

Now that I use my G35x, I see the need to install a radar. I planned on the same setup as you until I read about the 9500ix. Got to get it done this week, still on the fence between V1 and 9500ix.

I have had no complaints on the V1, still going strong. I did end up turning off POP intown as well as X band, as there were way tooo many false positives.

Whatever you get, give some thought to how "unique" it is. If you get used to one type of detector, you might not react quickly to another, so IMO it pays to have the same detector in every vehicle. That might factor in when choosing what unit to go with. I`d go so far as to want the display in the exact same place in every vehicle (i.e., in my peripheral vision when I`m looking out the windshield).

I have an old Escort 8500 x50 blue. In that case, the natural fit would be the 9500, I bought it last night online.

I just dont want to buy something only to read about how bad it is on one of these forums!!! HAHAHAH...

Heh heh, IMO *anything* you buy, in any product category, will probably get a :down from somebody on these forums

Hope you like your 9500, sounds like you made a well thought-out decision.

I`ve had 2 K40s and hate them. They came with the cars so I never paid for them but they suck. I have a V1 now but am planning to add a 9500ci and run it in conjunction with the V1 and then add Laser Interceptor USA laser jammers in addition to the sub-par ZR4 jammers included with the 9500ci.

I have K40 and Portable Escort Passport 8500.

K40 Cost me a lot as you can imagine and I think it is totally waste of money. I know that Escort is better than K40 and it is only $350.

I drive quite often to Vegas from LA and know almost all the traps. I noticed that K40 was picking up the radar much later than Escort did. So one of the trips I decided to take the Escort 8500 also with me and I Escort picked up the signal way before K40 .

I like radar detectors, because I think they make me more alert overall...

go with the escourt much better performance and are better than almost anything out there.. carl valentine who makes the v1 designed his v1 back in 2001 and its the same big clumsy old looking thing while escort and bell have passed his unit with better specs and features.. go to radartest.com to confirm.
