Leatherique removed some of my leather color ...

Hello all,

Today I decided to use the leatherique kit I bought several weeks ago. I followed all instructions and everything worked well until the last step. I proceeded to apply the PC and some areas of my leather interior were losing their dye. I was not using a scrubber, just a microfiber towel.

Did I do something wrong?? I did notice that my leather had different textures in different areas.

I know that GM leather from the late-90`s is not great leather, but can someone explain me if this is normal?

It sounds like you have damaged the finish. Do to the age of the vehicle it may not have been avoidable. You could just live with it, if it isn`t to bad or try to refinish it.

I apologize for not posting pics, but my camera broke and I`m in the process is getting one. I will post pic as soon as I get one ...

You mean the leather changed color or the cloth picked up color?

When I had questions regarding their product and specific leathers I was planning to apply it to, I contacted Leatherique directly. I sent them an email first and later contacted them directly. Leatherique was very helpful.

The cloth that I was using picked up the color.

I did contact them and they responded immediately. This is their response:

"Have you owned the Olds since new, or did you purchase it from an individual or dealership. Color removal on just a few areas usually means that the prior owner had some wear there, and used a shoe polish or dye to blend in the colors to make the car look good enough to sell.

The ph in the Prestine Clean is as gentle as Ivory bar soap, and cannot remove dye. The Rejuvenator is only a protein collagen complex that is absorbed into the hide to nourish it, and while it will expel dirt to the surface, it does not harm the dye in any way. Where on the seats are the areas?

Digital pics will be a big help as well,

I`m the second owner, but I doubt these areas were previously repaired. I was constantly using LEXOL products with good results before switching to Leatherique because of their great reviews. I NEVER had any dye transfer issues when I used Lexol. I do remember seeing a post in a forum (don`t remember which one) were a BMW owner experienced the same dye transfer issue when he used Leatherique.

I`m still getting blue on my cloth when I use the Prestine Clean after a treatment, and this is because the previous owner (he finally admitted) used blue shoe polish to cover up some worn areas. I don`t think the seats (now 21 yrs old) had been really cleaned before I got the car and the sunlight (roadster) had taken it`s toll on the leather. Leatherique will bring it all back on shape eventually
