Is the problem that you need a FO cable to get from one unit to the other?

Or is the problem that one of the two units has a FO port and the other doesn’t?

    You aren’t. Not directly anyway.

When connecting two pieces of electronics the output from one must match the input of the other. They must be the same physically (FO, copper, RCA, TOSLINK, XLR, BNC or whatever) and they must be the same type of signal (digital, analog, RF, line level, power level, etc).

It sounds like your head unit has a digital FO output (probably S/PDIF format) and your amp only takes analog voltage (can’t tell if it’s line or power level without more of a description) on copper wire as an input.

Unless your head unit also has analog outputs you’ll need to have something in between them to convert the digital signal to an analog signal.

What are the makes and model#’s of your units? What kind of connectors do they have on them?

    PC.
