My buddy has one in his 2001 Ford Explorer....soooooo nice especially in the winter. I def recommend buying one. After reading this thread, I`m considering buying one myself. I had no idea that they were as cheap as $300.....for some reason I thought that they were at least a grand.
I found an old buddy to install one for under $200. I am torn between the remote start and bed cover though. LOLOriginally Posted by Ctowner

Is there a quick explanation on how to install a remote starter? I`m guessing it`s not as simply as changing your own oil LOL

I`d stay away from the Bulldog brand at all costs ...
For Manual Trannies they make a special Module you must put it in neutral engage the parking brake and press a button on the remote it arms the remote start to fire up when you hit the buttons ...

I agree that a lot of things are as only good as the install... that`s why I do it!:2thumbs:

They are easy to install on some cars, hard on others. It all depends on what features it has and how it is connected. Many of the newer units use a tach-less signal and those are 3 or 4 wires to install. I`ve installed 4 remote start alarms, the easiest one took about 4 hours, the hardest took two days, but both were the same brand model of alarm, just on different cars.
DEI makes some really nice units.
My boyfriend has a mazda rx8 and i want to get him a remote start for his car i`m looking at the Viper 5301. Is that a good one or should I look at something else?
....old thread.
anyway, Compustar FTMFW! :2thumbs:
1 mile range, don`t need to see the car to start it, works with manual trans.
I heard that it`s possible to start a car engine with an IPHONe. How can I do that, how much does it cost ?
I don`t have a Lambo
I don`t like a lambo

Once you get to the car you have to have your alarm to keep the car running otherwise the second you touch the brake to put the car into gear without the remote, the engine turns off. Additionally, my remote start turns itself off after 10 minutes.
On the viper I have you have to press a button two times in succession for about 2 seconds each time. I have had my keys in my pocket as well as in my back pack with my work related belongings and never has the car ever started inadvertently on me in the 11 months I`ve had the system.
