I can`t imagine it`s that hard to order a v1 and put suction cups in the same spot...that`s what I meant

Just as an FYI, you can call and request a returned unit for a discount. That is what I did, and the concealed display brought the price back up to the cost of a detector alone. Returned units are checked out and put in new boxes, and have a full warranty.

I`ve gotten two tickets with a V1, but both times I was not paying attention, and the unit had warned me, but I had incorrectly intepreted the signal. I had a lot of different detectors before the V1, probably a new one every year, and have been with the V1 for 6 years now. Time to get it upgraded I think...

    Interesting. Typed in my serial at the upgrade page and got this;

Status Report on Your Valentine One

    Serial Number 898xxxxxxx

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.7 gives high performance on all radar bands. Also,it remembers your “mode†setting when shut off. Has stack of four LEDs on front panel for band identification. Front and rear laser.

Upgrade Recommendation: While this version is not quite up to today’s V1 standard for Ka, it’s almost always good enough, and always better than detectors from other makers. X and K performance is excellent. Upgrading merely to improve radar performance is not cost effective, in my opinion, unless you’re concerned about the POP Mode operating in your area. Upgrading does bring other benefits, including our latest laser warning (front and rear), which outperforms the competitors by a wide margin, and POP Protection. Also, you`ll get the new Euro Mode.

Our Instant Upgrade* will make the following improvements to your V1.

Our best Ka-band performance, including full "superwide" coverage (33.4 - 36.0 GHz), today`s long range, much better resistance to Ka false alarms, and POP Protection from MPH BEEâ„ III and Enforcerâ„ radars.

    Our best X-band performance.

Our best K-band performance including POP Protection from MPH Enforcerâ„ radars.

Adds radar coverage on Ku-band (used in Europe).

Adds our latest laser warning, front and rear while reducing the "thickness" of your V1.

Adds Euro Mode which adapts V1`s radar sensitivity to the way radar is used for photo enforcement in Europe.

Latest windshield mount with new suction cups.

    Latest visor mount.

New Lighter Power Adapter with mount for Concealed Display.

    New Direct-wire Power Adapter.

    New coiled cord.

    New straight cord.

    New wiring-harness connector.

    Dual-Lock fastener.

    New Owners Manual.

    Spare fuse.

    Spare suction cups.

One-year limited warranty, same as new units.

*INSTANT UPGRADE: As soon as we receive your old unit (in operable condition with no tampering of the serial number) we’ll exchange it for a brand-new, current-production V1. This is our way of assuring you’ll be without V1 protection for the shortest time.

    PRICE: $189 plus shipping

    Lightman- OHHH, *now* I understand

VaderSS- Interesting response you got there. And you reminded me that I need to see about upgrading some of my V1s. Yeah, every time I get cited despite the V1 I would`ve got the ticker no matter *what* I was running. Instant-on/laser, you just aren`t gonna beat that unless they zap somebody ahead of you in traffic...

That`s a nice stealthy location for the display.

I`m just a line-of-sight guy myself, having had the displays in my field of vision (and basically in the exact same place) forever it`s what I`m used to.

Heh heh, this makes me think....I`ve been running radar detectors for *30 years*

The BEL RX55 and RX65 use brand new technology that is light years above and beyond anything else on the market today (except for the Bel STi). My nephew is a cop and we tested all the major players last month, and the BEL beat all the rest hands down! I kept the RX65 and returned all the rest. The BEL also gave us 3 times the warning distance than any of the others did. One test it warned us over 3 miles away! At first we thought it falsed, but then we saw the radar hiding under a bridge. It`s amazing how good this radar detector is. I just wish the remote version wasn`t twice as much. You can pick up the RX65 at sbhcorp for only 229.00 :getdown
