I am used to doing proper prep for applying a sealant, as I never got real big into carnaubas (although they are starting to interest me more and more). I always polish (abrasive if necessary) to remove swirls and get as close to a perfect finish as possible by varying pads/abrasiveness. Then you apply the sealant directly onto this surface, making sure there are no oils or fillers left behind after polishing. Then you can top if you wish.

With a carnauba, since bonding isn`t such an issue, it seems you could polish, glaze, seal (if you want) and wax to your hearts desire, not really worrying what the glaze is leaving behind.

I just wondered if there were any major differences or approaches to take when switching from a sealant like Zaino to something like AIO/Nattys or any other carnauba.

I do approach it a little differently. As you mentioned, I don`t get concerned with my choice of polish or glaze before using a carnauba.

I tend to use glazes with more oils in them when using carnaubas to get the deepest, wettest look possible.

Agree with Scott and Zane.....The wax or sealant is your icing on the cake, just a protectant to maintain what prep work has been established. You still have to "use proper ingredients", before your protectant, and some dont bide well with Poly`s. Nubas are a lot more forgiving, like Scott said, they fair well with glazes and polishing oils because they tend to blend together better. Polys really prefer as sterile a surface as possible, but there are glaze/poly combinations that perform well together.

I find that I use non-filling polishes either way, but I tend to go for RMG before a carnuba, whereas I would just use a sealant over OCP or Menzerna FPII. I don`t usually bother with AIO unless I`m using SG. Sometimes I use RMG before EX, but never before FK2180 or EX-P.

I like to RMG after polishing with a carnuba, and AIO after polishing with a sealant. Other than that my before steps are the same.
