As you can see the scratch is pretty thorough(all the way?). Is the only good option is to sand down the rest of the rear spoiler, and completely repaint? Is there any way to just repair that one section instead of re-doing the entire spoiler?

if you prep it it could be as cheap as 80 bucks or so and as much as a few hundred.
God I hope I don`t screw up the paint!

I`m very confused right now -- after posting this here, I also went and found some information about just removing the spoiler altogether on my car. But removing it would leave some holes that need to be filled/welded, and the region under the wing will need to be reprimed, painted, glossed again.

What I am trying to get at is, how come it is possible to repaint a portion of the car rear, and not need to repaint the entire end, yet to fix this scratch on the spoiler itself, the entire piece has to be done, even the rest which is still good paint/gloss?

Sorry for such a newbie question, I really have no experience when it comes to auto paint!

When a paint/body shop repaints a specific area of the car they have to feather in the paint so that the transition from new to original is as smooth as possible. Many times though it`s noticable. Since you`re dealing with an isolated part of the car, rather than the middle of a door or the hood, you`ll likely have better results by having the spoiler repainted.

Did you buy the car new?

If not, could be you have an aftermarket spoiler & who knows what kind of quality (or lack thereof) prep work was done before spraying.

Can`t tell for sure but it looks to me like I see primer in the seam of the spoiler and the panel. Looks to me like it`s be repainted (poorly) and the paint has lifted.

Looks like a 300ZX TT, alot of people have had similar problems with the wing on that car. It does look like you will have to get it repainted, I wouldn`t want to remove the wing, it might cost just as much to make it look good without the wing.

Even if you sand down the area to get all the bad paint off, you could leave an obvious line between new and old paint like Griz said. If they paint the whole spoiler, the trasition point can be hidden underneath body parts cause they aren`t connected.

Your either gonna have to paint the whole spoiler or the whole trunk lid. It`s gonna be one or the other.

will spraying work temporarily? I just need a quick fix for the next month or so until I have more money to properly fix it. How would I go about spraying it, or should I ask a shop to do it?
