I am probably getting a PC soon. I would like to know if somebody can tell me what all the different color pads are used for...Are the colors of the pads even used to distinguish one type of pad with another? For example, some posts include the "Orange peel"; Is this the orange-colored pad? Maybe someone can create a chart for me naming types of pads on one column, and what they are used for in the 2nd column. Thanks a lot!

There are several different manufacturers, you need to check with each supplier/vendor before making your order or wish list......What color is polishing or cutting for one, may not be identical for another.....

Okay, so what about "The Edge Pads." Which ones would I get to allow me to remove swirls, oxidation, and to polish the car with compound? And what`s up with the different sizes of pads? What effect do different size pads have?

Pretty much everyone uses a 5" backing plate with a 6 1/2 pad.

I would get a kit, then add a couple extra pads to it.

I believe most kits come with a polishing pad, a finishing pad and a light cutting pad. If not, these are the 3 that will be doing the most work for you. I would stay away from a cutting pad, until you have done a few cars and have a few polishes with varying abilities.

Go to the Edge pads website and it will tell you what each color pad is good for. Basically, the colors are used to more easily distinguish between the different textures of each pad.

This might not speak for all Edge pads, but I got one of each of the one sided pads recently. The velcro`s adhesive on the yellow pad has already come loose after being used thrice. I think it can be fixed with some super glue or something that wont eat the foam, though.

With the information on this tread and this Foam Pad Selection as the spadework you could create a chart and post it for us
