I just picked up a nice one owner 1990 Volvo 240. The guy said it was repainted about 3 years ago but the silver paint is pretty bad. The sides will probably come out ok but the top surfaces need serious help. The only cleaner I have currently is some Mothers Cleaner Wax that`s very, very old. I used it on a small spot on the hood and it basically just made it look worse. The spot turned dark and there wasn`t any shine. Is the finish hopeless or is the something that can bring the paint out? The body is really nice with no dents or even any door dings so it would be nice if I could fix it somehow. I appreciate any advice.

Klasse AIO may do the trick, but the paint may be beyond AIO. I would take it to a professional detailer/polisher and ask how much it would be to fix it and what they would do for the problem. Then repost and see what products/techniques to use to DIY.

I`ll post pics tomorrow. It`s pretty bad. I guess if you are going to have faded, oxidized paint silver is better than red......

    Thanks for the replies.

As the others have mentioned get some Klasse AIO and give that a try:

And before you give up all hope look at what AIO did for this red truck:
