Magnets on painted surfaces

Been seeing a lot of those `support our troops` and other types of magnets on the painted surfaces of vehicles. Do you have one on your car?

Nothing goes on the paint of my cars, absolutely nothing!! I even hate window stickers....I hate the inspection sticker ( why can`t those guys put them on straight!:angry )

I see them on cars as well... Do they hurt cars paint? Not sure.. is there one on any of my cars..... NO I wouldnt put one on my lawn mower...

Hey, I`m the same way with my cars too. If it didn`t come that way from the factory, then it`s not going on my car. You won`t even find that pesky dealer ad on the rear of my cars either.

God no..... As much as I support our troops I would never put something like that on my car`s finish.

Good point. I also support our troops and show my respect to America. I do so by wearing one of those small flag pins on the collar of the shirt I`m wearing when I`m out there detailing customers` vehicles. I also display one of those clip-on car flags when I`m detailing at a customers` house. Just yesterday I had a little five year old son of my customer ask why I had the flag on my truck. I simply told him that I put the flag there as a way of showing my respect for our country.

Guilty, guilty of a XM radio magnetic atnenna on the roof top......Im going to get some 3M Vinyl sheeting and put it on top in that particular area.

I have American flag lapel pins also. On a car , a similar window sticker would show the same support and probably have less issues removing.

I put a layer of S100 on the side of my fridge and then tried a fridge magnet on it. The magnet slid from top to bottom and ended up on the floor. You`d probably end up scratching the paint if you put anything like that on a well polished or waxed vehicle.

Like others -- absolutely not! I never put anything anywhere on my cars. However I did make ONE exception. When Dale Earnhardt died I put a small #3 on my back window. (Not the car in my Avatar) That one is a Dale Earnhardt Signature Series Monte Carlo, my wife`s)

Would putting a small terry or MF towel work? Obvisouly it can protect your paint, but will the magnet stay on the vehicle with the towel there? Would a typical business logo or "Support our Troops" magnet have the magnetic strength to hang on an highway speeds through the towel?

Did that make sense?

BTW, Patrick: My parents instaled a magnetic XM radio receiver on (soon to be) my hood. Right on the hood! It turns, wiggles, and now that little 3"x3" section of the hod is scratched to hell. However, my mom got one on her trunk that sticks. So far no movement and no scratches. Kind of difficult to work around though.

It was just an experiment to see if the magnet would still stick.

I could tell you about the #16 on the other side of the fridge and how well the magnet slid on that too. But you may of course think I`m a madman with too much time on his hands, so I won`t.

Magnets? Heh heh, I can`t even stand factory badging on my cars

But for your pros (and people in some other professions) it`s a different situation. Wearing certain sentiments on your sleeve (or, uhm, on your vehicle) can be a *very* smart move. At least magnets aren`t as bad as stickers. Sometimes a vehicle is just a tool, one that does more than provide transportation.
