I might be interested in purchasing this, primarily for waxing my vehicle, and removing swirl marks. Anybody use this? It looks like a very good deal to me.

That looks like one another member was asking about last week.

    Check out this thread.

Basically it may help a bit with wax but won`t do anything for swirls.

Your best bet if you don`t want to shell the cash for a PC is to pick one of those varible speed random orbital sanders with at least a 4amp motor with hook disc pad. :xyxthumbs

I`ve had two similar units. I believe you can get something similar at Lowes or Home Depot for about $30. But you can do better...

I now have a PC (Porter Cable) 7336 that I bought at Lowes for $109. But that doesn`t get you any pads or backing plates. That`ll cost you another $50 to $80. So cost is a down-side.

The upside of a PC versus these other buffers is that the PC actually works. I`m a newbie at detailing, but even with my limited experience I`ve had much better results with the PC than with those other buffers.

So what happens when the pad wears out or tears, or you need some accessory or replacement part? You can buy multiple brands, types and sizes of pads and accessories to meet various needs that fit the PC. For example, Sonus and Lake Country make a several very good pads that fit the PC. Multiple vendors have parts for the PC.

With that other buffer, about all you can get are some bonnets and a few pads. Getting spare parts might be a challenge. Try searching for a vendor that carries 10 inch pads and bonnets.

Here are several reputable vendors on line that carry the PC, pads, bonnets, accessories, and spare parts:

    Check here at:

    Or, here at:

    Or, here at:

Am I biased? Obviously! But I`m concerned that you will buy one of those cheap buffers and quickly come to the same conclusion that I did when I bought my first two units like yours - you wasted your money.

If I may be so bold, I suggest doing what I did... Buy a the PC 7336 ($109) from Lowes and the Lake Country "Hi-Gloss Professional Pad Kit with Velcro Backing Plate" (6 inch pads) from Proper Auto Care ($59.95). This will get you started with the buffer and pads. Here the link to the 6 inch Pad Kit:

    http://www.properautocare.com/hipadkitwive.html

That combo worked out so well for me that I ordered the Lake Country 7.5 inch pad kit. They are supposed to be better, but do require a bit of experience.

Best of luck with your decision.

    Regards,

    Dan.

If you join www.meguiarsonline.com you can get the G100, a Meguiars badged Porter Cable 7424 with the backing plate and a pad for $149. In addition, the buffer has a lifetime warranty.

Just FYI, I got my PC through the autopia store to help support the site. Whichever option you would choose, you get a great machine.

Just to add to what Scottwax said, you could buy the PC and pads from Autopia store here:

    http://store.yahoo.com/autopia/dual-...polishers.html

If you buy from Autopia, download the Davids Ebook and register it you get an extra 10% off of the listed price of $129.95 on the PC. Also you will probably need some pads. The Sonus pads are worth looking at, if you decide on buying these you can take the 10% ebook discount or use the coupon code "SONUS" to get 15% off the price of pads.

A few of use were helping someone else with their PC purchase, you might find it helpful to take a look at this thread:

Or take a look in the hall of fame forum for the definitive PC thread.

    Good luck with your purchase!

    Brandon,

I have used one of those 10" polishers for years.

But you are limited to pads for it, and I found that it was only good for applying a polish.

They do nothing for paint correction...I went over my car 2x`s w/ a Swirl remover and it did nothing or very little.

I purchased a PC 7336 from lowes and got myself a backing plate and few pads. Water spots that didn`t budge were now gone.

I was a sceptic but now a beleiver and the extra money is truely worth it in the end

    Just my $.02
