I just had some color-matched running boards put on my truck and need a product to use on the fresh paint for a while. I have some 3M SMR and was just wondering if the oils would be good enough to give the new paint some protection. I stopped by NAPA today and they did have some 3M IHG, but it was a giant sized bottle for $22. I can get some Meguiar`s show car glaze locally, but I`ve heard it can be oily and hard to work with. But then maybe that`s actually what I want -- oils...

Any thoughts on 3M SMR vs. show car glaze?

I`d opt for the glaze as the better choice, has even more oils than the smr, the smaller Megs should be fine.
Treat it like it`s the only one in the world.

The SMR has abrasives. Use the glaze unless you need to remove defects.

why not just leave the paint alone? It seems to me that putting anything on the paint only slows the solvents evaporating out.
Close enough... They`ll never notice anyway

I wouldn`t use either. Oils aren`t gonna protect.

3M`s PI III Finishing Glaze is designed to protect fresh paint while allowing it to cure. I believe the 3M guy that did a demo I saw last month said it was good for about 3 car washes.

I actually got my car repainted a few weeks ago and still have nothing on the paint. I have the finishing glaze though and thought about using it but it has carnauba in it. Can anyone confirm that it`s okay to use on fresh paint?
