Was helping my friends with their cars, they both have plastic headlight lenses (mine are glass). They had the usual baked on bug residue; what do you guys do about this? I`m not sure what`s safe to use on the plastic.

You can clay the bug residue.

After, you can use many cleaner type waxes or paint cleaners. For example, I have used Moose, Wax Vanilla Moose, AIO and PwC.

Also, you can buy dedicated plastic cleaners at places like Pep Boys. You can get Meguiar`s or Mothers. There is also a plastic cleaner from Blue Magic (I believe that`s the name).

If the headlights are yellowed, you can use Flitz or some here have used metal polish. If you look under Lynn`s posts, she has a nice write up on the process of rejeuvenating dull plastic lights.

    I got a kit from Autogeek.net- it was Meguiar`s #10 and #17.

Used it with my porter cable and it took out that dull yellow look I had.

Thanks guys...but these headlights aren`t yellowed at all. They just have bug guts on them like you get on your grille, etc. I didn`t want to melt them with Bug & Tar remover or scratch them, etc. I tried a little Meg`s PlastX on one of the cars, that didn`t seem to take the stuff off. I`m just a little leary because I have always had glass lenses that I don`t have to worry about damaging.

    ~ One man’s opinion / observations ~

To remove bug residue use a mesh-covered insect sponge (Autopia Soft Scrub Insect Sponge) and soapy water, pre-soak heavy bug contamination with Insect Cleaner (Einzett Anti-Insekt + Pre-Cleaner)

    ~Hope this helps ~
