Not meant to thread jack, but if you clay over your layers of SG, which I gave up on for the ease of Zaino, wont you damage the SG or Zaino layers?

    Thanks

Wash, rinse, clay while rinsing....wallah. I seriously think you get better contact with pollutants due to lack of lubricant.... , thus promoting a better all around finish.....Its kind of like grabbing a glass with soapy hands (If you use a lube), you cant really get a grip on it.....

Bill, your old way still sounds GRT but if you wanna save some time and still use the QD you can. Instead of drying the car after you wash and then using the QD, I just leave it wet and start using the QD right there. QD lube is nice and sticky picking up everything and glass smooth. But if you like this new way better, it sounds good...

    Not really!

When I do the inital wash, I leave the vehicle wet, then I take out my bottle of car wash soap/water solution, clay the panel, then then rewash the panel I clayed with a fresh solution of car wash soap (working paert time at the state fire academy, I have access to lots of 5 gallon buckets, as that is what the dry chem fire extinguishing agent comes in! ) and continue until the car is done.

I would think if water works you could just put water in a spary bottle and pretend it is a QD. This will also prevent water spots from forming if you are claying before drying and after washing.

to lube the clay with. Washing with distilled is expensive(I own a distiller, but I dont use it to wash the car).

I just use a half cap or so of Zaino car car wash soap....and 12 ounces of water in spray bottle. Works great, and when dried off, I have yet to see a reason to re-wash.

I also use water with the clay. I do notice an increased tendancy to stick, but that`s usually because I wasn`t flowing enough water. Since claying is a one handed job, I have no trouble holding the hose nearby and letting it dribble water or use a nozzle on the mist setting.

I don`t like using a QD or such for claying because of concerns regarding the subsequent application of SG or the like. Never had a problem mind you, just don`t feel comfortable with it.

Hmmmm.......after reading this thread, I`m thinking the next time I clay, I`ll simply do it while QEW`ing. I.e., wash panel with QEW, clay, dry, move to next panel.

    Comments, anyone?

Barry, sounds like a good plan. Just make sure the panel is totally clean of dirt/grime before claying.

Doesn`t sound safe with QEW to me. I always use QEW, but you usually got dirt floating around with it. I`d just go with a spray bottle after a cleaning in your case, 3wheeler. Unless someone`s got something better.
