I recently installed new rear seats in my 1996 Nissan Maxima. They are black leather seats, out of a 1999 Maxima. They were in decent condition, not yet dry, yet clearly on the way there. I used Meguiar`s Rich Leather conditioner for 2 weeks, only so that I could do an extensive cleaning without drying them.

That time has come, and today was the day. I began by using Soft Scrub (w/ Orange) to clean the seats. It did a very good job, and proved to remove a lot of hidden dirt. After that I applied a coating of Connoly Hide Food and turned my car`s heat on and left it for 20 minutes. I come back in 20 minutes and to my suprise the seats are completely dry again. I repeated this twice (the last time rubbing it in by hand), and while the seats do seem to look excellent, they do not feel very supple. For those that understand, the leather is soft, yet not supple.

What am I doing wrong / what other steps should I take to perfect my leather?

    Thanks,

    -Cyrus

Be patient... with weathered surfaces, it takes several sessions for the leather to gradually soften up and absorb your conditioners... condition your seats once a month or so, it`ll improve after a couple of months.

Has anyone heard of difficulty getting Hide Food (now Hide Care--check out AutoGeek`s newsletter this month, story on it)? I love both Connolly`s Cleaner and conditioner (Hide Care). Pinnacle`s leather cleaner is really good, too. And smells so lovely!
