touch ups

I am following the removing nicks and scratches procedure on bettercarcare.com. It said on the article to put a thin coat over the nick/scratch SEVERAL times and let dry between each coat. How many coats should I be applying before starting to wetsand it? I wetsanded one of the touched up spots on my truck today and I noticed a very small area showed primer. Guess I didn`t put enough coats huh?

hmm, u should have wetsanded only till the level of the paint is even. So fill till it is even or a little higher. Did u use a small block or something. I generally use an eraser. and wrap it 2000 grit tat been sitting over night.

Yes I used a small soft block with 2000 grit. When I saw the primer show up, the touched up area was still not level with the paint. Guess I should retouch it and put more coats this time.

Are you doing it on a flat surface or a curved one. I just trying to imagine how u sanded down to the primer without making it level. Did you put primer on? Maybe u put too much primer and not enough color. If so you need to remove some primer.

I am doing it on a curved surface. Actually the edge of a door. I only put one thin coat of primer. I`m thinking I didn`t put enough color.

Yeah it sounds like it, just make sure it sits below the highest point of the chip. Then put the color. I did touchups before without primer because they were very shallow and it seems to work out ok. I do notice a difference if u prep the spot or not. Make sure u remove as much as wax and sealant was possible.
