the ultra and paint polish don`t stain, only metallic polish stained my white pad pink...btw if you massage some dawn into the pads and work it in under warm running water, you should easily be able to clean the pads to like new cept the pink dye on the white pad

Nope, I do what was said above, massage dawn through them after use, then I let them dry in the sun...always worked for me:up

Yup, MP stains my white polishing pads pink. Warm water and dawn does get most of it out, but there is still a pinkish hue. Perfectly good to use with other products after cleaned.

Not yet used UP or PP.

When using 1z polishes is it best to step down, e.g. PP then MP. Or can you go straight from PP to sealant/wax?

I go from PP to UPP or topper of choice...it has always left a finish worthy of topping. I was supprised to find that UPP adhered as well as it did to the oils in 1Z, but is comes out nice and slick, with no streaking...wish I could say the same thing about wolfgang, that didnt adhere to the pp at all and was streaky, nasty looking. I applied it to a Harley yesterday and it came out great, so I think it has to do with the oils in the PP.
