Fixing "Deep" Scratches ??

It`s a mediocre picture, but the scratch goes down to the primer.



Which is the best method of fixing this?



a) The "Dupli-Color Premium Touch-Up Repair Kit (I have this in front of me):



b) Mothers Scratch Kit. or;



c) Langka`s Scratch Kit?



One bit of information will help me decide (besides your august opinions) is whether the "langka" stuff is a rubbing compound or a selective solvent. The Dupli-Color final stage is a compound manufactured by 3M.



Help me on this, guys!

b) and c) are the same. The Mothers packaging even says it uses Langka technology. I would say they are more of a selective solvent than a rubbing compound. They aren`t supposed to remove OEM paint, just the touch up paint.



They really aren`t too bad, it takes a bit of practice to get used to the technique. I say this because I`ve got some fixes that it worked quite well on while there are others that it didn`t, but I honestly believe it was the person not the product that accounts for the difference in results (they were on the same car with the same color paint).

I`ve been researching repair options for a chip on the hood of my new Highlander. From what I`ve come across the Langka and Mother`s product are the same stuff (Langka may even manufacture it for Mothers, or Mothers bought some of the rights to it...something to that effect). In anycase, both are basically paint thinners.

In my case, with it being a new car...I`m a little skeemish about the wetsanding...if I have to I will, but I`m going to try the least aggressive method first.

BTW...looks like a key scratch?



I think it looks like the stuff below the "ridge" may be successful repairing by Touch Up, but the stuff above the "ridge" may be better using a compound?

I found a lot of the Langka *technique* is the type of cloth you use over the card. The looser the weave ( eg flanellete) the more it pulls out of the chip .. the tighter the cloth weave ( Part of a sleeve off a high quality old shirt ) the better the results and less paint pulled out of the chip.



Also start with some pressure then less pressure as you come close to flush with the original paint surface.

In the meantime I attacked the scratch with PB SSR 2 and the appearance of the scratch has been diminshed considerably. To the point that I`ll put the "Scratch Fix 2in1" on the shelf for the time being.
