One of my mates has been away for a few months working, when he went into his car when he came back he found that the carpets were all covered in mildew.

He has tried to removed it with carpet cleaners etc but the stains are still there .

Has anybody got any suggestions how to remove the stains?

Consider taking out the seats and thoroughly cleaning the carpet with a carpet cleaner and a disinfectant. Then let it air dry until it is completely dry. The padding is the worst. Sprayed the affected areas with a disinfectant, the padding underneath and the carpet on the top. Clean the carpet using a (steam) rental unit from the hardware store (using upholstery attachments) re-install the seats. It will take time, but the results are worth it. Also think about using one of the stain/odour removers for pets. They sell a product called Nature`s Miracle at pet stores and it has natural enzymes that remove smells.
What gets overlooked too often is that one must be a student before becoming a teacher.
