Windshield Fluid - Any DIY`s

Any of ya`ll run a mix of water/vinegar as a windshield fluid in the summer ? I`m thinking about trying out this mix this year. Gotta play around with dilution levels. I use straight vinegar at home on the windows followed up with a warm water as a rinse and the windows are sparkling clean.



I`ve used just plain old water with P21S washer boost and it works for me.

Are you not worried about overspray on paint parts loke the bonnet & roof, vinegar being acetic acid. I just cant imagine it being good on paint, plus windshield fluid ir relatively cheap

Just some questions I would have before mixing up my own washer fluid would be:



Will the products seperate once mixed?

Will it rot or get moldy?

How does it react to the plastic container?

Will it damage any of the hoses or pumps it has to go through?

Will it damage my car or plastic if it gets on them?

How will it react to heat and cold? Since this is a summer idea I don`t imagine freezing is a concern.



I just think that normal gallons of blue wiper fluid for $.99 are too convienient and easy to bother with mixing my own. If you come up with anything that works then let us know. All I know is that my wiper fluid smells kind of like fruit loops and when I use it in the summer I can smell it blowing in my vents. I don`t think I`d like the smell of vinegar in there. Whatever you come up with, make sure it doesn`t stink.

I agree with all, and I get blue washer fluid for $.50 a jug

Vinegar will stink, and on top of that when it evaporates off, it will leave concentrated acetic acid behind on your glass, the wiper blades, not to mention the paint. It`s going to spot too.



Windshield washer fluid on the other hand will evaporate away almost 100%.



If you really want an alternative, consider mixing up some QEW and using that.

Yeah, the QEW thing is clever.



Also, if someone is looking for a highly diluted, yet effective windshield washer fluid, GM`s Opti-Kleen gets mixed way down and remains effective. You select your dilution level based upon cold temperature requirements. It`s around $4/qt at many GM dealers. Great product, have used it for years.

What is your purpose for using this mix?



Does it have to do with the price of windshield fluid and your trying to save money during the summer?

Don`t use vinigar!!!!!



I was stuped enough to try it in my last new pickup.



It worked fine and saved me a dollar or two.



But it melted all the rubber gaskets in the tank , pump, ect.



Cost me $75 to fix it my self.
