Good thinking, but they are not very robust. The correct leads cost peanuts, it`s just getting them here thta`s the problem.

Right then - NEWS FLASH
I`ve found a supplier for these extension leads that will ship to international destinations. I`ve sent them an email to request accurate shipping costs for 1, 2, 3 and 4 leads. Going over 4 leads might gain too much interest from Mr D. Uty.
I`ll get back to you if/when this place gets back to me. In the meantime if I`m not around and the Autopian deal goes ahead, please count me in!

Blimey! Got the prices already!
1 = 21.93 GBP
2 = 33.08 GBP
3 = 40.92 GBP
4 = 48.75 GBP
4 come in at around 12.25 GBP each. But there might be Duty and VAT to pay plus posting to you guys!
What do ya think?
BTW, these prices are for 25 ft leads.

what`s the spec of the cable?
Do they do longer ones?
Is that just the shipping charge there, or inclusive of cable too?

These are definitely outdoor quality 2 pin to 2pin? With this goods value maybe if they leave the shipping off the parcel value we may be OK with VAT.
Have you a link?

The prices quoted include everything needed to get them into the air. As I said, it`s just a matter of avoiding Mr C. Andexcise then this will be the final price - except the posting out to UK Autopians. I`m gonna keep looking throughout the day to see if I can get cheaper!
These cables are the exact same ones as on amazon.com, same brand - Carol Cable Co (TrueValue). Indoor or outdoor use, 16 gauge cable with 2-pin polarized plug and socket. They do all sorts of lengths - a 50ft cable is $10.95 but double the weight for shipping! I was trying to keep the price down as much as poss.
The price for the 25ft cable is $7.95, but they have to get them from somewhere else in the US, so we have to pay for the internal shipping to them which is $7.99 on top plus then we have to pay the International shipping. This $7.99 internal shipping cost stays the same whether we get 1 or 4 cables. That`s why the price gets much better when you`re looking at 4 cables.

They were seriously quick at getting back to me with the prices - especially as it was a Sunday. Getting quick email responses is always a sign of a pretty decent company I think. So they should be quite good to deal with I reckon.
Anything happening with the US Autopian offer of help? If anything does happen and I`m not around, just count me please!

I made a few calculations - and I reckon if we do get hit by Mr D. Uty and Miss V. AT then we`ll be looking at approx. 16 GBP plus postage to fellow UK Autopians.

I have e-mailed Newmarket as they obviously have plugs & sockets (US style) so let`s give them a day or so to come back. I think the idea of buying plugs & sockets only is a good one as most of the weight is in the cable. I`m sure someone in the UK must sell the plugs & sockets, I can`t see Newmarket importing them, can you?

The plugs and sockets have to be the polarized type - make sure you state this. I already bought some non-polarized 2-pin plugs and sockets from Maplin then realised the PC plug would not fit into the non-polarized socket.
Also, I`ve got an electrical wholesaler near me that I`m going to pop into after I`ve finished work this afternoon. They may be able to get hold of some of these polarized plugs. Worth a try.

I have looked into the shipping charge via USPS. a 7lb parcel costs $38 via Air Mail parcel (about 10 days delivery). If someone can get us the Amazon deal then post them to us it should be OK. I need to find the weight of the 50ft cable

I`d be up for a group buy on this one chaps - saves me testing out my electrical DIY skills and finsing out that they`re cr@p the hard way - know what mean.....
Craig - Wiltshire`s pretty close to me so I`d be happy to meet up somewhere if this all goes ahead.
Just let me know final price etc.

Andy, if you are that worried about making one up, I`ll make one for you and post it down to you, assuming we get just the connectors. I`ll even test it first

I`ve just been to 2 electrical wholesalers near me - neither can get hold of US plugs/sockets.
We need to make a decision which route we`re going to take - connectors or whole cables? I`d like to get the order in within the next 48hrs if we go down the whole cable route. I want my extension, just in case we get some decent weather! I`m itching to fire up the PC!
