I searched but couldn`t find anything so here goes..

I`m detailing my engine compartment this summer and am shining up the metal parts like a/c hoses and such. Its enough to keep up with all the dust and dirt that accumulates. Don`t want to spend even more time repolishing the metal parts again and again.

Once the metal parts are shiny I want to use a clear spray paint over them to lock in the shine. Is this a good idea? Will polishes leave a residue that reacts with the clear coat?

    Thanks, Jason

I`ve done this many times with excellent results. Make sure you remove any old residue, dirt, grease, etc so the paint sticks. I think there are hi temp clear paints available (been a long time since I`ve done this so I can`t recall).

An old detailing partner and I half disassembled a 5.7L motor in a new Chevy truck and clearcoated a bunch of parts for the owner. It looked great when it was done.
There are only three things you need to know about me. Gloss, Gloss, GLOSS!!
