Is there any brand of soap that would work better/be less abrasive?

I pick the car up tomorrow, and I`m showing it in a week. I know that it will need to be washed in that time frame.....

    Thanks,

your body shop probably washed the car for you. ask then what they used. usally something without any waxes or other additives should be fine. My body shop said Meg Gold Class was okay for me to use

main thing to do is to use a new wash mit. your old one probably has dirt and other stuff that you may not see, but since the paint is still soft you want to be extra safe.

    Thanks,

I have both the Gold Class and the Meg. Soft Gel soap at home.

I knew I would need a new mit, but thanks for the heads up.

I will ask the shop what they recommend.

Ask your painter what wash product he recommends. After a suicidal deer put her imprint on my hood I was told that my Z-7 was fine to use, but to wait 45 days before applying any sealant. He said that while waiting it would me okay to use 3M IHG and Z-6 QD spray.

1CLNB14- You might want to order some Griot`s Car Wash. I haven`t used the Meg Soft Gel recently enough to remember it, but the Gold Class isn`t NEARLY as "slippery" as the Griot`s. Just no comparison. I know it`s popular on this board, and it foams up nicely, but the Gold Class lacks the lubricity that I desire. IMO, that might be the most important factor for washing your new paint job. I`ve washed LOTS of fresh paint with the Griot`s, and even when it`s really dirty, no problems.

As Nick T. said it is important not to put any sealants on your car at all cause this would keep the paint from fully curing. I have painted cars and then detailed them..i like the Meguirs Gold alot but the main thing is which has also been mentioned is that one you want a new wash mitt definitly (even though body shops dont use new ones that often) and then 2. you want to make sure that you dont have any washes with waxes in them or anything abrasive. Hope i kinda supported the other guys in helping you.

P.S. Good Luck with your show! :xyxthumbs

I bought a new mit last night.

I just don`t know in the Soft Gel soap has wax in it, and I don`t know any place that carries the Griot soap.

With a single Nissan trophy, I will need a bit of luck on my side for this show, thanks.

Hey 1clnb14 I think that i MAY have found something that will help you. There is a guy with the user name fastidious_r and he says that he gets a catalog from "Griots Garage" I dont know if in that catalog they sell the soap but they might its worth giving him a email or something. I found that name under the following links. Autopia>Club House>Hot Tub>Magazine Subscription.

Another thing thati wanted to tell ya is that by asking the body shop what soap they use...you sometimes might not get the answer you are looking for cause they sometimes buy in bulk form only a distributure that sells to companies. I have found that this happens primarily to the BIG shops.

1CLNB14-As you are in Seattle, you could just call Griot`s (they`re in Tacoma, WA).

    (800) 345-5789

    You want item# 11103.

I forget the price, but it`s worth it.
