    hi friends,

as an apartment dweller in NYC, finding a source of running water (not accompanied by whirling rags or brushes) for washing one`s car can be a challenge.

Since we`re going to tap 50 degrees tomorrow it seems a good opportunity for a hose-down to clear off some of the winter dirtiness. (ok, i`ve had the car since Friday so its not *that* dirty)

Do any autopians know of a touchless car wash or do-it-yourself-with-a-wand type place in the NYC/NJ area?

I include lower connecticut and westchester county :-) in the radius of action.

    thanks!

    Hi,

Never been to NY, but surprised to hear that the big city doesn`t have numerous commercial car washes.

I`m also an apartment dweller in New Orleans and it`s hard to find an available hose and bucket sometimes but I`m never more than a few miles from a commercial car wash.

Tough luck, theres no self servicing car wash anywhere in NYC. You`re only bet would be the brushless carwashes around here.

I was hoping for something within 30 miles, not in the city proper...hence "nyc *area*"

Depends where you live in NYC. If it`s upper Manahatten, then a trip across the GWB to NJ there are quite a few self wash places off of route 4 or in Fort Lee. If you are in midtown Manhattan, you can take the lincoln tunnel out route 3, or if you are in lower manhattan, take the holland out to Jersey City.

If you don`t live in manhattan, but in another borough, a trip to NJ might not be worth the effort or tolls.

Let me know where you are coming from and I can try to locate a place.

You need to head over to Yonkers man. THere are a few there. One is on McClean Ave near Rory Dolan`s and the other is at a Gas Station on Tuckahoe Rd. just past the Shoprite. THere are other ones in NYC area Bx I beleive there is one on Tremont Ave and there is on I know there are some in Queens. But if you live in Conn then Yonkers is close by.

Splash has hand wash places in CT and Westchester - I tend to go to the one in Greenwich, but their website Splash Car Wash - Your Car Deserves A Better Car Wash! has the current list of locations and services (some are hand wash and/or machine wash, some might be machine only)

At least at the Greenwich, CT, location, they`ve basically pulled all the mechanical brushes and use the traditional mechanical track to move the car through a series of human stations, so its quick.

If you would be needing some of that wash or repair for that matter, try to look for some good new york auto repair shops that can help you out on that one. In that way, you would be having a lot of choices or variety of avenues to choose from to fix up your car.
