    Hey all,

Well, Im a newbie to the car detailing scene, and just had a question about Mequiars Deep Crystal Sytem. I was wondering what your opionions were on this 3 product system (Paint Cleaner, Polish, Carnauba Wax) Have you had good results, anyways, I tried a search, and found alot about general thoughts about Meguiars products, but none in particular to this system. So, what are your thoughts? Thanks! Peace.

Mother`s also makes a three step system that should be available locally. I have never used it, but I have never heard any bad reports about any Mother`s product. Also, if you have a question in the use, Forrest, (With Mother`s), is a forum member and can probably help you with a solution. Try that with Barry Meguiar.

OK this one I can speak from great experience on as it is what I started out using when I detailed back a few years ago. I agree that the paint cleaner is second to none, and I still do use it at times. (Either that or Meg`s Clear Coat Body Scrub cleaner).

I think the polish is an ok product, but you have to use it several times to really get the optimum results. Only big disadvantage to this is that its REALLY oily and you`ll probably need to use alot of towels once you get a few coats on. I`ll snap a few pics later today of my neighbor`s van if he`s arround - he uses this system applied with a PC, and gets some of the most amazing reflections I`ve ever seen on white (amazingly enough, when compaired to zaino, klasse, souveran, S100, and a slew of others).

As for the wax, its not exactly "high quality" as far as its optical clarity (above van has all Gold Class on it, not the step 3 wax), but as far as durability, its basically as good as #26. I`ve been able to make it last on a van I had previously for about 8 months simply by washing weekly with gold class car wash, and following up with the spray "QuikWax" and then QDing (with the maroon bottle stuff).

So my advice, is if you must go with stuff you can get locally, try upgrading the step 2 part to #7 Glaze or IHG (either one will perform better than the DCS polish). And as for the step 3, it depends if you really need durability or what you`re looking for. I definitely wouldn`t "upgrade" to gold class wax, but perhaps going up to #26 to gain optical clarity and retain durability would be a wise move.

    Good luck!!

    my first post...

i have the 3 step system, Gold Class, Scratch X, Quik Detailer and the mothers clay bar. im actually finding that the quik detailer is adding swirl marks even though i`m following the instructions and using a white 100% cotton towel. I`ve also just recieved a MVP Superline Buffer/Polisher 10". i`m not sure if anyone has heard of this brand as i live in New Zealand (beside Australia :p ) it came with a wool-looking thing and a terry cloth thing and the instructions are useless. what, of the above products that i have, can be used with the buffer? if none do work (i think the Gold Class says on the label it can be used with a buffer) what would be recommended (Mothers and Meguiars are about the only brand i`ll be able to find). the car is a 96 Toyota Curren (similar to Celica) and black so im a bit hesistant about using it uninformed, so the first time i use it`ll be on my dads silver 99 Ford Falcon (lease is up soon )

thank you very much for your patience and any help i recieve

i agree with the "very oily" description of the polish. I have it, and use it (if only b/c i aim to finish any product before upgrading/switching) with a PC. Even working it on with the PC for minutes, it still takes a lot of effort with many towels to remove. I used two towels for my hood alone :nixweiss tho i`ve found that a spray of water does wonders for removing it (still really annoying to remove tho)

Hey CurrenZs welcome to Autopia! your going to love this board there is more info here than you`ll know what to do with.

As for the system your using scratch X is abrasive so it really depends on how bad the paint is and it is probably not something you`ll want to use everytime you wash and wax your car. what I would do it wash the car then clay it . The if you can get 3M SMR ( I guess you can order it online if you can`t find it locally) Followed by a #7 and then top it off with a coat of wax. I`d use S100 but if you can`t get that then #26 should be fine.

If your QD is leaving Swirl marks it is probably the towel maybe there is something in the fibers that is causing this. Did it ever fall on the ground? My pal dropeed his one time and dragged a small pebble across the trunk of his car!

So what I would do it toss that towel out and if you can try to get a Micro Fiber towel if not then just get a new 100% cotton terry cloth towel.

As for the buffer i have never heard of it before but I took a quick look on the net and found the MVP 7inch version it has 2 speeds. In my opinion it would be fine for taking wax off and perhaps applying it but I find it easy to apply wax by hand. However it doesn`t seem to have enough torque or power to really work in a SMR or glaze. If you are looking for one everyone around here uses the Porter Cable Polisher you can`t ruin your paint with it if you stear clear of the wool pad. Others still use rotory`s but those are best left to the pro`s.

If I were you I would search for other peoples plans here and collects a bunch of opinions as I could on mothers and Meguirs products and make a decision based on that. THere is also the ebook you can download from the download section on this site. It will give you a terrific base of knowlegde from which to work from in a nice neat fashion. I totally reccommend you download at least the first 8 chapters they are free. The rest will cost you like $15 I think wel worth it IMO.

Good luck man. Don;t forget to post pics of your work. We love to see pics around here.

thanks for your reply dengsxr i took a photo of the buffer and also noticed on the side it says 2600rpm. the terry cloth is on the buffer and the woolen thing is on the floor. also got a pick of my car, 96 Toyota Curren ZS, its a Japan only model with 180hp from a n/a 2.0 4cylinder. i think the back is the same as the 2dr Celica coupe in US but with different front styling similar to 200/240sx.

i love the black and dont actually find it that difficult to keep clean, as long as its shiny and polished it always look clean and shiny from a distance. i have something called a `microfibre cloth` so im guessing its the same (just some things are called different names between countries) and it says its a `dry dusting cloth, woven from ultra fine fibres to lift dirt from all your cleaning surfaces` so that sounds bout right

is the terry cloth thingy for applying wax stuff and the wool thing for buffing it off? excude my ignorance but i have no idea about this stuff and am very cautious.

also, a month after i got my car, i was cleaning it (not the first time :p ) and felt the sponge sticking to the car. turns out the ENTIRE car is covered in white overspray dont know how it got there but i was devasted. i clay barred the entire car (had to do all glass and lights etc too) and it smoothed it down but the white specks are still visible. ive tried the 3 step system since and some scratch x on one part of the bonnet 4 times with somewhat good results but still there. is this ever going to go away or is it stuck forever? in the new year im going to go to the only car care retailer in my city and *hopefully* will pick up everything i need and learn some too, pity i`ll have to wait till the new year, i just want to do it now! this site will be a great help too

    hopefully the pics work

I started with the Red bottles, Cleaner/wax, and clear coat body scrub. For older finishes the clearcoat body scrub is used to remove oxidation. If you maintain well that issue should be avoided entirely. The red bottles are the beginner/consumer line. Gold Class is for Enthusiasts, and the professional line is what most Autopians use.

I went through all three and now only consider the professional product line. Love DACP, Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze, MPPPC, and #9 Hard Yellow Wax with Carnauba.
    The perfect shine is

    pure satisfaction.

Isn`t #9 the swirl mark remover?

The wax you`re talking about might be #26? the High Tech Yellow Wax?

I currently use the professional line too; I think the professional products work fairly well and I also like the fact that they`re are locally available.

CurrenZs what I am thinking is maybe you should try the clay again. Here is what I would do.

Wash the car again then clay it. Concentrate on one panel at a time and take your time with it. when your done claying the entire car take a step back and look at the paint and see how it looks. Are there lots of swirls ( if it is black my guess is that there are. If so then use 3M SMR ( I think Meguires has one as well )that will take out any swirls that you may have. Then I would polish it with a Meguires #7and top that off with a great wax of your chioce #26 should do nicely and you`ll have one great looking car.

My car is black as well so I feel your pain! I am going to do my car this weekend I live in NY and it is going to be 42 degrees but my friend is letting me use his garage.

What I did ( still do actually) it dig through this site inside and out. There is tons of info in here if you are looking to learn. If you go to www.properautocare.com there have a troubleshooting section and a hints and tips section that will give you a great starting block. Let me know how it turns out man

    Good luck
