since drying the vehicle with a towel or microfiber towel after a wash increases your chances of swirls, i was wondering what the opinion is for drying the car using a leaf blower that blows in excess of 150mph and then touching up the small areas with a towel?

    thanks

No problem.....just make sure the area around the vehicle has been wetted to keep dust down......

Works well and has been discussed...look for the "perfect drying technique" thread....

    Welcome to the forum

I think that`s my problem! I thought it`d be a great idea to try, so I went and bought a leaf blower. The thing`s so noisy though, that I decided to blow my car in the garage. Guess what? I blew and blew and I ended up with a bunch of little specs of dust on my car! All over the place. The car ended up being dirty again!

So maybe I should wet my garage next time heh? Or, do they sell air filters for blowers? Would that be the ticket?

I doubt they sell leaf blower filters... but I have never really had a problem with dust when I dry with the blower. (That could be because I am in Houston, and over half our days are 100% humidity) heh

Try wetting the area around the car, also are you using a Gas or Electric?

    Good Luck

Try blowing all the dirt and dust out of your garage with the leaf blower before you dry your car. I don`t use the leaf blower on my car, but it does a great job of cleaning the garage. I had used brooms and my shop-vac before and for me, the leaf blower is much, much faster and easier.

I`m using an electric one. Yeah I think most of the dust was from the garage, because I`ve not cleaned my garage in years! In fact I can see a layer of dust on the floor.:nixweiss

Sigh... now have to wash my car again.

I would use the blower outside, but damn it my neighbors are gonna laugh at me....

So, who cares? Unless maybe you`ve got the hots for one of them.

Of course.... I knew that. Tried it and still there are some dirt marks.

So then I washed my car again. This time I used the distilled water method. In fact I`m testing it. I just pushed all the regular water off with distilled water. Didn`t even bother toweling my car. It`s in the garage all wet right now. In an hour or so I`ll know if that method works wonders or not.

Never know... towels and leafblowers may never be needed again. Crossing my fingers.

    just be very carefull....

I do some landscaping on the side and often use a gas leafblower..

sometimes when I froget the tube I just use my hand to direct the air towards the sidewalk and noticed one thing... every once in a while the leaf blower WILL injest a small rock/pebble.... this rock /pebble is then launched out the end of the leaf blower at tremoundous speeds......

IMHO... this is defently a bad idea... as you run the risk of chipping, scratching the paint (in a really dusty room, think sand blasting!!)

Wouldn;t a gas blower leave some oily like residue on the car??

I`ve often thought of this but haven;t actually tried it..

Best way is to just use an electric. I don`t think you would run into issues with oil being blown out the exhuast or things being sucked in. I have been using my small Toro ($29.99) for about a year now with no issues whatsoever.

I have always used an electric blower to dry both cars, especially good to get to does hard to reach places. I do not try to dry the area as much as minimize the water beads on the car (since I always do a final wipe with one mf and detailer that takes only minutes). Great method and let the neighbors laugh!! I do not use it in a closed garage though because of any dust being sprayed back onto the car, especially when wet).
